Simmons College FNP September 2014

Hi all!

Was just accepted into the September 2014 cohort for Simmons FNP program! Will be doing the part-time program --- beyond excited! Anyone else enrolled in this cohort? Any advice from those already enrolled in previous cohorts?

I just found out that the bio bridge course isn't covered by financial aid, meaning federal student aid. For me that means it would be completely out of pocket, which the financial aid office said would be $614 a month for 3 months if I do the payment plan. Since my employer has done away with our graduate assistance program for those going for Nurse Practitioner, I can't use that. I don't know if it is worth paying the enrollment fee if I can't pay for that bridge class, that I personally don't think I need.

I took out a Sallie Mae loan to cover mine. Would that work for you? They sent it direct to Simmons a couple days after class started.

I don't understand what the biology bridge course is for anyway? How do they decide who needs it and what kind of biology course is it ?

I was told it was because I'd had low science grades in the past, granted that was my first attempts at college 20 years ago. I guess they didn't look as close to my more recent grades as closely.

Can you take a class at your local CC usually couple hundred dollars during the summer to satisfy the requirement, or a class online through a different school.

I can ask, but I doubt it since it's a conditional admission. I don't need an actual main biology class. I think this is a test class they want certain people to take

I they are good about working with folks, lets say you can pay $200 at a local school for A&P or a Bio class there...I'd ask if that would be acceptable instead. You never know til you ask at least =) My friend enjoyed her bio class and just finished. I did not have to take it so I can't say what it's like, however, I will say I wish I did take it as Advanced Patho is HARD! and it's only been 2 yrs since I took A&P, Micro & Patho for my AAS and BSN, and I got all A's and B's but shew!

I just received my acceptance call from Simmons College today! Will be starting in the fall, but taking the bio bridge course first. I was told that I could start the nursing portion in November. Congrats to everyone!!

I just got my acceptance call and will be starting September 15th, as well! Very excited! After 7 years as an RN, I'm ready!! Let's get this done! :)
