I just found out today I was accepted into the full time March 2014 cohort. I wanted to see if anyone else on Allnurses would be attending Simmons in March...or any other cohort feel free to post...with me! I also joined the facebook page as well. Looking forward to this new adventure next year!

I did my clinical placement call last week (I'm full time so I"ll start clinicals in November this year), I was told that the school WILL FIND PLACEMENT for me. No stress over running all over town to find a place. That being said they also said if I had somewhere in particular I wanted to go do or someone in particular I wanted to work with, I was to reach out to that person and then send their contact information to the clinical placement team in order to secure the spot. The first rotation of clinicals will be Pediatric and Women's health (it can be broken up to 16hrs of wk for 7 wks peds, then 16hrs a week for 7wks womens health- OR- can be full 16 wks 1 8hr day at womens health and 1 8hr day each week for womens health) It can also be a family practice, but must only see pedi and womens health visits. As far as the clinical immersion weekend it will be 2-4 wks before the clinical term starts, and will be in Boston (Fri, Sat, Sun) and more details will come later on what will happen during that weekend. Rotation #2 is adult/geriatric, and rotation 3 is family practice or urgent care clinic (so you see all ages the entire 14 week rotation.) No hospital in-patient rotations are acceptable, and you CAN do rotation at place of employment however they do not recommend it. Finally, it is preferred of course that you have an ARNP/FNP precept you, second choice is a MD/DO, and third choice is a PA although they really do not want PA's, they will allow it if needed. The preceptor MUST have minimum of 2 years experience, however, they prefer more experience if at all possible. You can be placed up to 2hr drive from your zipcode as well.

Really? No rotations with a hospitalist allowed? :( They must have recently changed on the PA thing because earlier this semester they said absoloutely not. Good to know.

Thanks for the update!

have you heard anything yet Renita?

Nope...nothing. I finally stop biting off everyone nails and just accepted my fate. I am patiently awaiting the results now. How is school going with you Tasha?

It's going good! Super busy and Patho is pretty tough! I guess I wasn't thinking it would be that bad LOL. It's really time consuming and I'm not doing as well as I thought I would do in it that is for sure. I almost wished I would have been told to take the Bio course prior to starting!!! =( I love the set up of the program, and like anything it took a couple weeks to really settle into the format but it's been great for me! =)

Tasha I revieved a page stating they are reviewing my application at this time. I never received that before. Tasha what is the Bio course? I believe that before the class is over you will redeem yourself. :)

Hopefully that means you will get a decision soon Renita! Once mine when for review I think it was 7-10 days later I got my acceptance call and email! The Bio course is a prereq for admitted students who either had really old science/bio courses in college or who got accepted but only had a C in A&P/Micro I believe. You have to pay out of pocket for it as student loans don't cover it. It's a 8 wk 2cr hour course I believe. My friend took it and she said it helped her a lot with Patho (she's in the cohort behind me), I didnt' need it as I had an A and B in A&P/patho in my undergrad that was less than 3 yrs old. Good luck and let us know!

Just received my acceptance call and email today!! Beyond excited!! I'm in the Nov cohort! Good to hear about your experiences tasha. Keep them coming :)

sorry i haven't updated recently. It has been SUPER busy they past few weeks and I'm in my final two weeks of term one so it's time for finals. So far I am totally loving Simmons. I am going to drop down from full time to part time though, which sucks, but my husband has some medical issues that require more of my attention so I have to do what's best for my family. some of the classes are super involved and intense but totally interesting. Patho is very demanding and Research your papers and quizes are due 24 hours prior to your live class, which really messed me up because I worked Sun, Mon and Tues 12hr shifts with classes being on Wed and Thurs, so my stuff was ALWAYS due on the days I worked! blah! Student support is phenomenal if you have IT problems or just have questions in general. The book are rather expensive so plan for 400-500 out of pocket each term on textbooks! I used amazon and got the best prices. So far I have two A's and one B, so not too shabby with working full time, three kids under age 9 and hubby to take care of along with full time school. You have to be super disciplined and organized though. I'll update more when i go on my summer break...woo hoo two weeks off of school soon...congrats to all who have gotten in recently!
