Does anyone know if a hospital offers you 15K for three years and you get pregnant during that period do they make you pay it back?

I mean you can work while you are pregnant right? And if they do, don't they offer you benefits with this as well?

I know every hospital is different but does anyone have any experience with this? HB

Hey jimthorp... I just noticed your signon, I like mountain biking there... I live in Bethlehem and work at LVH-CC. Small world.

I like to clean some hills there too but I do not live there. My handle was a nickname given to me by a friend because of all the sports I played.

Ever ride the trails over at Lehigh? They have some knarly stuff there.

If it's such a great place to work why would they need to pay people $15000 to work there?

I'd be leery...

Im glad you like your job there and they treat you well....In answer to your original question , NO you will not have to pay it back. As long as you return within the normal allowed time off, your end date would just be extended. They are trying to keep you there, not have to fill another nurse position. I read a interesting article on how these hospitals can offer new nurses up to 15 grand /3 years. Its a well thought out contract, and this money is a bargain to them. The cost of hiring and orienting a new nurse and or seasoned nurse is over 10,000. As you can see, keeping a nurse for 3 years is a bargain!

SteelCity, You think like my mother - she's a headhunter for higher level techies. Training is very expensive..................

I have worked at this hospital as an extern/tech for about 1000 hours since May 2005, I then worked on the telemetry floor for MedSurg Clinical for 90hrs last semester and now for my last semester I am working on their SPU floor for another 90hrs under a preceptorship 1:1. This last semester I am doing everything a GN would do with the exception of starting a line and that can't be too difficult being that I was first a phlebotomist for 14 years.

After this I would do an orientation there for 40 hours a week for 6-8 weeks and then orientation wherever I end up.

I do not think 3 years is that long, it's close to my house and I need a solid base of medsurg exp before I can think of anything else. I might as well take the 15K-25%taxes. This hospital is not listed under Pheea as a hospital who is participating in paying 25% of student loans back. (this turns out to be less than the 15K) So, I like it there and yes it has its problems like anywhere else but its tolerable at least. And I know this hospital after working in 5 of its departments. Hey I know where medical supply is and of course the morgue which is unlabeled. I feel comfortable there.- No not in the morgue - that's the creepiest place around with its dim lights and empty elevator shafts filled with empty stretchers-they could at least brighten that place up!! No complaints in there......................HB

that doesnt sound fair offer you money to singh on and then turn around and say if you get pregnet then you have to pay it back thats not fair at all sounds like discrammition to me i would talk to HR about it and get an understanding about that policy.
