The hospital is in a town called Porterville, which is located in a poorer part of the San Joaquin Valley. The weather is extremely hot in the summer (think 100+ degrees) and chilly in the winter. The region is heavily agricultural. In fact, the majority of produce in the United States is grown in California's Central Valley. The area has plenty of fields, nearby mountains, and not much else.
The nearest 'big' city is Bakersfield, which has more than 300,000 people. Los Angeles is located about 150 miles south of the hospital, and San Francisco is about 250 miles north of the hospital if you are desperate for something to do.
The majority of the patient population will be lower-income Latino people, some of whom will be farm workers, and many of whom cannot speak the English language. You will also see some lower-income Caucasian patients who are descendents of the mass 1930s Dust Bowl migrants. Many speak with slight Southern dialects since their ancestors came to California from states such as Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl migration.
Update: I have an interview scheduled this coming Friday at this facility. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it results in a solid job offer. :)

Any luck? I'm a new grad struggling in the Central Valley and I just applied for a New Grad/Float Pool position at this hospital. I've never been to Porterville. I live in Lemoore, just moved here from Oklahoma in July.
