SICK (whine)

Published

Well, the famous immune system that has been known to attack squirrels in the back yard has finally given in: yesterday, I came down with what feels like bronchitis. It was my daughter's 18th birthday, and it was all I could do to get through dinner before I fell asleep on the sofa. I seem to have this magnetic attraction to horizontal surfaces, my throat is hot and itchy, and it hurts so much to cough that my chest feels like raw hamburger. I'm not running much of a fever (100 degrees just now), but I feel like something the dog dug up under the house. This is the first time I've even been on the computer since Monday night......and I'm fading fast.

Please, don't tell me to go to the doctor....they're loaded to the roof with five bazillion other sufferers, and anyway I was just there Monday for my annual physical, and my blood pressure was so high (180/120) that I got put on a 4th antihypertensive medication. In fact, I thought I was feeling crappy because of the meds, when in reality it was the beginning of this sickness.

Sorry about the whining........I just HATE being sick, and I even had to miss work tonight. So I think I'll just slink off to my warm bed (again), slather some Vicks on my chest, and gather some cats to keep my feet from freezing off. 'Night.:zzzzz

We admitted four patients from our office last week just for this reason, and all of them were otherwise healthy people between the ages of 22 and 51....Its really scary!!

I went to the doctor after having this cough for three weeks. My doctor said a lot of people are waiting like I did for it to go away and end up with pneumonia.

It's up to you, doctor now for bronchitis, or later for pneumonia.

I ended up with bronchitis and ear infections.

I have had this awful virus for one week now, I missed four days of work, due to it. I still feel like crap, but I have to go to work tonight. It sure hangs on along time. I went to my doctor, of course since it's a virus she couldn't give me an antibiotic. Just said to me the norm, plenty of fluids, tylenol, rest, etc.

I hope you feel better soon. I guess you have joined the crowd now, it seems all of the USA is fighting this. Just wish it was something more fun.

Thanks again. I am feeling a lot better, enough to finish my Christmas shopping this weekend (thank God!). I'm still coughing/wheezing and my throat is still questionable, but then I have asthma and I always have trouble with it for a few weeks after something like this. I'm just glad I'm getting over it in time for the holidays........I hate being sick at Christmas. But then, I hate being sick ANYTIME.

I feel for you--I missed last week with flu sx-went back to work for the weekend and got sick again. Now I am on the z-pack for bronchitis...Have to work tomorrow and Xmas day then I have a 3day weekend-thank the Lord....I feel like crap.....I have this annoying rattling sensation in my upper bronchioles and I keep having broncho spasms-especially when I have to try to raise my voice. The loading dose of zithromax almost did me in with diarrhea and gas....I really think that the staff at the LTC were given normal saline instead of the flu vaccine...Everyone is sick....

Thanks.......I did go to work this afternoon, but I sounded worse than some of the patients we were admitting, so the nursing supervisor took pity on me and asked me if I might want to take a cut for the second half of my shift. Well, it's not like I couldn't use a little more rest, so I gladly accepted it and came home about an hour ago. :D Hopefully, with a good night's sleep I'll be able to get all the stuff done tomorrow that needs doing (wrapping and cleaning and cooking, oh my!) and feel better while doing it.

Just for the hell of it, I checked my 02 sats at work and was at 93% on room air after using my inhaler, so I'm not doing too bad.;)

Sorry you're sick...just getting over the same thing, myself. Do like everyone said; rest, fluids, and more rest.

Hope you're feeling better real soon. :kiss
