:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeatHello All ~ I am graduating in August and I am starting to look at potential employers. I am ready and willing to move, as Iowa is not the best place for a new grad when it comes to salary. So, I'm definitly wanting to relocate and I'm trying to get an idea of somewhere where I can find a great job that pays well without cost of living being outragous  Any advice will help me start my search:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

Indianapolis has 3 magnet hospitals (I work at IU) and they pay isn't bad (not as much as mentioned in previous posts) but the cost of living isn't bad at all and there are TONS of houses for sale, not too expensive. If you don't mind winters its not too bad! (I can't believe I just wrote that! My job has improved my thoughts of IN lol!) Good luck wherever you decide to go!

:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat Well, I've lived in Iowa my entire life. . . so I can't say really say which climate or area I would prefer to live in . . cuz I don't really know.

All I really know is that I don't hate winter, I like winter, but. . I just don't like having winter 6months out of a year (like this year). So maybe I need a change of climate for awhile to get away from the winter weather.

I guess I would like a warm climate. . but not somewhere where it is WAY humid. (not good for my hair).

Anyways, so far I'm liking the ideas yall are giving me. THANKS:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

You should use something like this cost of living calculator: http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html

There are some areas, like SF, where the wages are still better even when you factor in cost of living.

What kind of specialty are you intrested in? For instance, if you are intrested in community nursing, a smaller more rural community might be nice. If ICU or ER is what turns your crank, look to a large metro area. Also, look at which states have no STATE income tax.

:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat There are states with NO STATE TAXES. . .heck ya :loveya: Where are these places?:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

I live in Iowa also............but I have no intention of moving anytime soon. I work for a staffing company and get paid 22-25 an hour, but it's not for everyone. I have also heard that the Des Moines VA and Iowa City VA are pretty good for the pay and for benefits and working for the VA isn't too bad...........(I have worked alot for the VA lately in the past 5 months).

You also have to remember that the cost of living in Iowa really isn't that bad.

Hope that's some help...........

Nevada doesn't have state tax. The cost of living and wages are about average. Water bills are skyrocketing for obvious reasons. It's a little bit overrun with conservatives, but we are working on fixing that. Oh, and it is very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer, but pretty dry all year.

Texas is supposed to have the highest salary benefits compared to the cost of living.

Yes...you get a relatively big bang for your buck with housing there (unlike where I live...grrrr...)

Both my nieces moved to the Dallas area after graduating from college. They love it there.

Texas and Alaska have no state tax, and I think Florida doesn't either. It would be easy to google just type in the words "no state tax" and see what comes up.

Indiana is a great state. I live next door in IL. Cost of living is relatively low and it is a pretty state.
