Should I retake Anatomy and Physiology 1?

Published

I took A&P 1 in Summer session 1 and recieved a C+, and have just finished A&P 2 in Summer session 2 with an A. Should I retake the first class? will this hurt my chances at applying to nursing programs?

Many schools will not allow a retake if one passes a class. Check to see if you can, and also see what the impact of a retake would be. How is it treated in calculating the new GPA? If allowed, I would definitely retake the first class.

I know when you take Anatomy and Physiology separately, if the school does not allow a retake of C and above, you can retake it at another college and nursing programs will accept it. But since it's part 1 and part 2 I believe it might be a bit of trouble because the curriculum is supposed to go together. I would maybe check with the programs you're looking at and see what they say.

From my understanding, most schools may average the grade even if you retake the class. I do recommend you retaking the class if possible especially at another school. Work to earn an A so even if they average the C+ and A, it will be a B or B-. Community colleges may not allow you to retake that same course because they see your grade as passing. Lastly, each nursing program requirements differ so do try to look for a school that does allow acceptance of prerequisite retakes.

Consult with your preferred nursing school. At my college, B minus is a failing grade in all sciences and math classes.
