Should I press ahead, or slow down?

So I was advised by my counselor not to take 16 credit hours. Including 3 sciences such as anat 1, gen chem, and micro. The nuts, and bolts of science. Its a huge semester for me. So far the pace is quick, but I seem to be ok first two quizzes one B, and an A. Its early, and I know its no indication how my semester will go.

I took so many credit hours because it earns me an associates in general studies, and if I take anat two over the summer I am eligible to apply to a BSN program I have had my eye on. As well as an associate nursing program, and my schools LPN program.

I am lucky I only work 11 hours as a tutor, so outside of that I really have no other commitment outside of cooking and cleaning. I am 27, and I have worked 60+ plus hour work weeks.

When I said I wanted to pursue nursing my parents got behind me. I suffer from depression so far I have mostly managed to control it, but I have been advised stress eccentuates depression.

My depression is particularly nasty, and actually lead to ideas of reference years ago. I don't know based off my hospitalization, albeit voluntary years ago will even allow me to become a nurse.

All my research into the subject says it is possible, and I have structured everything to make as much progress in my studies as quickly as possible.

I want to start a nursing school in the fall, but I have been bandying the idea of taking the summer off to work, bank some money, work full time as a CNA, and then go back to complete more coursework to allow me to apply to multiple BSN programs.

The plan right now is to press forward, and apply to my schools LPN program, ADN program, as well as a BSN program. I am willing to pay my dues since I am new to all this.

Thanks in advance for viewing any thoughts?

If you can get them all done at a fast pace WITH high grades i say continue. The fact that you don't work too often will allow you more time to study but i suggest staying on top of everything as all three of those classes can get pretty tough for most people at some point. I would've suggested micro stacked with nutrition and a&p2 as you'd see some over lap but as long as you keep a B+to A average you should be good. I would try to take the remaining classes during the summer though while working (its not for everyone but i did). Once you get into the program you really won't be able to work too much and for some people they take off working completely

It's a little bit late to be second guessing yourself. Isn't it too late to drop a class with a full refund? I'm in A&P2 and Micro this semester, and it's a lot. I never imagined we would be memorizing organism names and diseases in Micro (like 20 per chapter). I'm planning on working weekends and focusing on school during the week.

Go for it and do your best!

Ya, but my school has flat rate tuition. So if I dropped a class I would still be full time, and pay the same, even if I had never registered for that class.

I suppose it is a little late to second guess lol. Its habit though. I cannot believe I am even here honestly, I never thought I would be this close. In these classes. I AM SO EXITED!!!

Part of the reason I took such a heavy load was because if I needed to drop a class because it was to much, the flat price tuition.

Ah, okay, that's not so bad then since you have a longer time to feel out the course without financial penalty

Only you know if you can handle 17 credits. When I took my prereqs, I usually attended part time. I went full time maybe 2 semesters and made sure I took only 1 science per semester.

I did it that way to assure I'd get A grades. In my area, my goal program was competitive based on GPA, so obtaining all As was imperative.

It is possible to do well in school with 17 credits. My daughter is in college (not nursing, but Psychology major) and always overloads. She is maintaining a 3.8 GPA as a college junior.

Depression sucks. I have personal experience with it. I eventually learned to not let it affect school. I was indeed successful at maintaining high grades while battling depression. It can be done.

Best wishes to you!

School actually helps my depression. For me its doing something about my less than ideal situation finally after so long, it feeeeeeeeeeeelsssssss gooooooooooooooodd. Sorry I am tired, and I get goofy when I am tired.

Honestly though, when I overload myself, I find the depression is more manageable for me. Its long periods of idleness that cause me to really sing into that black pit.

I am not citing my depresion as a crutch, its just something I have to be aware of, since I neglected it, and it bit me.

Finally thank you for your well wishes.

Hey Gaven I thought I had made the perfect prereq and gen ed routine. I took 18 credits every semester but I wish I had taken more hard ones at once. Now that I'm deeper in the nursing classes, we have student nurse jobs available, and I don't want to be tied down with some of the gen eds I have left. I should have saved easier ones for now.

Just my thoughts. Wishing you success!
