Should I do an LPN Program?

We are a military family, and know that we will be moving in a little over 2 years. The schools in our area have a year to year and a half wait time for RN school. But I could get right into LPN school.

So, would it be better if I finished LPN school now, then did a LPN to RN program when we move?

Or just to start an entire new RN program when we move?

Think of it this way... where will you be in 2 years? If you can commit to the 1 yr of LPN school, you will be half way to your RN. If you wait on the RN program, you will still be on the waiting list to even start your RN. If you wait on moving, you'll be waiting to move, to wait on the waiting list, to wait through the program to get your RN.

IMO its pretty clearly better to work towards your LPN than to wait on an RN program, especially when the LPN license/degree counts towards the first half of the RN as well.

And on top of that... in less than two years you could have a nursing license. It may not be the ideal, but if, for whatever reason, you cannot start the RN when you anticipate, atleast you will already have a usable career. Never know, you may find yourself employed somewhere that will pay for your LPN to RN or comp you work time to go as well.
