Should I give up scrubs?

I love wearing scrubs because I look like a nurse, they're comfortable, I can wear tennis shoes (I have feet and back issues so dress shoes kill me), and I don't worry about getting anything on them. Plus the pockets are great for all my keys, phone, etc so if I have to run to another area of the building I'm not holding everything. However, I had a kg student who got hurt freak out because he thought I might give him a shot when I was trying to check him out. I've had a few other leary kids worried as well but they didn't flip out like the one did. Plus I've had several teachers ask about my scrubs because I guess the nurse before me did not wear them. Some joke about wearing my pajamas (I don't know abt you but I've never worn mine as pajamas), that it must be nice to wear them (it is but they say it sarcastically), why I'm wearing them in a school, etc. I had another district nurse say now that the cooks and sometimes janitors wear them we don't look as professional as we used to in them. I don't want the kids who must come to me daily for meds and treatments feel like they are sick or there's something wrong with them (had that come up from someone as well-does the uniform make them feel like that??) What are your thoughts?

Whoops. Must have been my typo. His name is Apeal.

Today was the first day of school. I guess I'll be giving you report tonight.

Ohhhh, "Apeal"

Yea, I've been wondering about him...

:)

This year I started wearing a white lab jacket. Very casual for the most part. Today I wore jeans, a black t-shirt, and my white lab coat and sneakers.

That's crazy that a nurse has to blend in, on purpose, with the teachers though. :sarcastic:

If you love wearing scrubs then wear scrubs. The other stuff you mention isn't your issue and not your responsibility.

OldDude, are you still wearing your red t-shirts?

For teachers who make rude comments I like Farawyn's suggestion as a response. Say something that puts them in their place. They might think they're being funny. Show them you're not amused.

I think if it still bothers you once you've stopped the rude comments from teachers, then it might be a real problem.

Well, yes I am. Every day except once a month for college day. Same shirt - well not the SAME shirt but you know what I mean.

You were talking of perhaps switching it up?

I thought about changing to blue since our school colors are red and blue but I like the red, so I just ordered 5 more red ones

OldDude, is your closet like Homer Simpson's?

All blue pants on one side, all red shirts on the other?

My school district has two high schools and two elementary schools. One group is blue and gold (my kids' schools) and the other is green and gold. My name badge is supposed to be white due to my office is at the D.O. and all the staff there are "impartial". But last year all the D.O. folks had to go to the green/gold high school to get their ID badge photo done. The photo company assumed we were green/gold employees. So we all have green/gold badges. You should see the blue/gold kids when I showed up with my green/gold name badge.

BIG rivalry between these high schools who play sports against each other.

Hey, I wanna see the red shirt!

Not at all....that's why I wear the same shirt - it does'nt require thought or organization.

Hey I wanna see the red shirt![/quote']

I never have been successful in posting a photo in here ...but...it's a bright red, long sleeve, crew neck tee, 100% cotton, with my name and title embroidered, in blue, conspicuously position over the left pectoral (not breast) area. And, of course, I look stunning in it!!

Great description! I can see it now . . .
