Should I get a desk to study at

I have always been the kind of person who doesnt really study and when I do it is always in an oversized chair or on the couch in my living room. I got accepted into a nursing program that starts next month and I need a dedicated study space. When i was doing pre-reqs i spent hours hunched over my books on the couch and it didnt work well for me. I work at an office supply store so with my discount and a gift card I should be able to get a very nice small student desk for about $50 dollars. Will having a dedicated study desk help me in school?

Yes, I went to nursing school fresh out of high school and I learned that studying at a desk you'll have a better chance at retaining the information, thus sitting in a comfortable spot will only keep you side tracked and probably make you fall asleep.

Indeed, studies have shown that studying while sitting in and upright position yields better results. However, I study in my computer chair with my legs propped up on my bed, and I have always made really good grades. I guess it just depends on the person.

I spent every study minute sitting on my bed with a ton of books open all around me. Lol.... it was very convenient for me but to each his own.

I have a spare room in my house that was converted into my "office". I have a nice desk & a nice chair..I'll study at the desk for a while, but then I usually get up & move around the room, or sit on the floor next to the desk lol. It just depends on your studying style. If money is tight, you could check out studying at your local library, or hanging out at a place like Starbucks or Panera's (and use their free wi-fi LOL).

Not necessarily, but to each their own. I study at the dining room table. There are two different desktop computers in my house and I have never studied at either one of those desks. Unless, there were NCLEX questions online but then again, I'd probably use my phone. Anyway, I've found that I study pretty well at the dinner table in comparison to coffee shops, public libraries, and other classmates' homes. That's just me. I'd suggest that before you spend any money, try the places you've studied well before. If those don't work, then try another FREE place lol. Good luck on your decision.

I found that when I was studying for my Pre-Req's, I did my best as long as I was comfortable. If I was not, I found myself fidgetting and unable to concentrate.

I'm one to study in bed...hunced over my books, laptop, etc....lead to a lot of neck issues...for the most part now I study at the kitchen table...My desk is just tooooooo small for all of nursing books/notes/laptop and I do better at retaining info
