The ATI books dont really contain that many critical thinking questions. They are better for reviewing.. But I want a crapload (pardon my french) of critical thinking questions. I have heard many people talk about Saunders review books, do these contain a lot of practice questions? Are there any other books you suggest?... I really just need more practice with these types of questions...
I'm starting to get nervous. My first fundamentals test is next week, and while I feel that I know the material... I have heard horror stories of how these tests are worded. I just want to be well prepared...:typing
Thanks.
As a nursing instructor, I ask that my students get an NCLEX book asap, and study with it from the start. It helps develop critical thinking from the beginning. I believe there is something to be said for developing these skills over time. That said, even fundamentals exams should offer critical thinking questions, especially towards the end of the course. It is NEVER too late to start. Also, there is a book called Fundamentals Success that has similar questions geared specifically towards the fundamentals course.
I absolutely think that Saunders is a must have. Its very thorough and extremely helpful to review for exams and learn how to test take. Their rationales are very thorough, so study those as well.
I had the Potter & Perry Fundamentals book, as well as ATI, and I probably used both equally.
It states in the first few pages of the Test Success book to buy an NCLEX review book and that we should be constantly studying for NCLEX throughout the program. Saunders NCLEX review does have a few questions for fundamentals but you can read through some of the questions just to get an idea about critical thinking questions. It helped me a TON to read it before school started. I was never one of those people who was thrown off by the questions because I had already started going through the questions in the book. Good luck and yes, go buy a Saunders!!!!!

Get the Saunders book day 1 of nursing school. Use it to review for all of your exams, use it throughout school to review for ATI/Hesi and by the time you graduate you'll be ready for the NCLEX.
