The ATI books dont really contain that many critical thinking questions. They are better for reviewing.. But I want a crapload (pardon my french) of critical thinking questions. I have heard many people talk about Saunders review books, do these contain a lot of practice questions? Are there any other books you suggest?... I really just need more practice with these types of questions...
I'm starting to get nervous. My first fundamentals test is next week, and while I feel that I know the material... I have heard horror stories of how these tests are worded. I just want to be well prepared...:typing
Thanks.

It's early for Saunders.
No doubt... But I feel like its hard to find these types of questions unless I buy a review book, no? Unfortunately, the CD that comes with my textbook doesn't have anything.
Fundamentals. Are you expecting critical thinking questions when you are just learning the fundamentals? If you get any your instructors are way whacked. You do not yet have the knowledge to evaluate.

Do you have Taylor's 6th edition fundamentals book? That is the one I have and my cd does not have any questions on it either. If this is the one you have, the website has review questions, but still limited. I recommend getting the study guide that goes with the book. It has alot of questions and they are different formats.
I took my first test two weeks ago. Be sure that you read the question several times and make sure you know what they are asking. Read the answers several times also. You should be able to eliminate two of the answers(not always though). Then from the remaining two pick the one that best answers the question. Good luck.

Yes...ATI will help you on ATI exams if your school requires them, but I did not find them helpful with our exams at school.
ATI gives questions that are more fact-based than critical thinking based, and to me, this is not good training, but it's good supplemental learning.
Saunders has more realistic questions on them.

We started out our very first nursing school test with critical thinking questions......I thought I had failed the first test! I was never so happy to see a B! And yes, I wished I had used Saunder's for my first class. It helps to read many different questions. In mine, there is also infomation that we had on our fundamentals exams....

for fundamentals, i *strongly recommend* as it has lots of questions:
fundamentals success: a course review applying critical thinking to test taking (davis's success) (paperback) by patricia m. nugent (author), barbara a. vitale (author) isbn-10: 0803619219
test taking techniques and advice:
test success: test-taking techniques for beginning nursing students by patricia m. nugent and barbara a. vitale isbn-10: 0803618948
those isbn are for the 2008 edition. you can probably find used 2004 editions for cheap on-line somewhere.
i like lipincott's and mosby's for med-surg and beyond nclex style q's for studying for exams. good luck!

Our first test on fundamentals was full of critical thinking. I think out of 50 questions, 40+ were critical thinking. It was tough....I wish I had gotten a book to better prepare me.
I agree!...our test consists of therapeutic communication, vital signs, safety, nursing process, and nursing assessment. The material itself is very..well... "Derr". Pretty much self explanatory, but I know that they will word it to make it tricky.

I LOVE Saunders but I agree it may be a bit much for fundamental semester- I am in my 2nd sem (med surg) and it helped enormously- the outline is great-
I like ATI as well- take them il you get a 100% ---getting in the mindset of anwering the q's is big for me-
Just concentrate on following and paticipating in class now- I deviated from teachers notes last sem and have had to turn myself around-lol!

yes buy the saunders book when your ready to study for nclex!! . i am doing the ati review, and i am very dissapointed. i agree with everyone else that it's just a review of knowledge, and doesn't teach you how to answer the questions. i am borrowing a saunders review book from an instructor, and it's much better.
