Shoreline Community College Fall 2017

Published

Hello Everyone!

I am starting this thread to hopefully compile some extra information regarding acceptance into Shoreline Community College's RN program for Fall 2017. The application deadline was April 3rd, and acceptance letters are to be sent out 4-6 weeks after. Needless to say the suspense is not doing me any favors!!!

Has anyone else applied for Fall 2017? I have been reading on forums the minimum acceptance points by quarter (as far back as Fall 2011) - and it seems to range anywhere from 100.3 to 108.6.

Any info on number of applicants or when acceptance letters are being received would be greatly appreciated! Good luck everyone :D.

I got in! But I also go into another preferred school so I'll be declining my seat. Congrats to the alternet!

I am so excited I fount this thread!! I just got my acceptance letter yesterday from shoreline... I will start the nursing program in the fall 😁

I feel almost guilty for being accepted. I'm sure there were so many people who worked so hard for the program and were not accepted. Feeling especially guilty since I was so near the cusp at 104.75 points! Is anyone doing anything this summer besides the mandatory paperwork/orientation to prepare for this fall? I have anatomy flashcards collecting dust that I'm hoping to study (I'm pretty rusty - I took Anatomy 5 years ago!) and I've found an advice book for nursing students on Amazon I just ordered. I just want to be well prepared come fall.

Any words of advice for us?

Hey everyone! I haven't heard from anyone in this thread in a while. Who here has turned in all the paperwork already? It's been interesting gathering all my immunization records since most of them were through my pediatrician in Connecticut. Then I have an appointment with my doc next Monday (earliest I could get it), they'll do the TB skin test so I can hopefully turn everything in on one go that Tuesday after they read the results. Also trying to factor in the cost of everything we'll need to get this summer - so far I have the background check and our scrubs as the two main things.

What are you all doing to prepare? Has anyone decided whether they'll work through the program or stop working. I gave my employer a heads up of my situation (I won't work come fall) so they have plenty of time to find a replacement for me.

Oh, it's also interesting because I applied under one last name (my maiden name) but I finally got my ID updated to my married name. So I have to somehow switch everything over with both the school and the nursing office :-/ Hopefully I don't mess up their system

I only have everything completed because I was an alternate last quarter but yes it is an interesting process.

There are a lot of books to buy right off the bat I think 6 or so if I remember correctly but they last us for a few quarters. Another interesting thing you need is white leather shoes for clinically. They sell the scrubs in the book store but the pants are wired, so you can get the brand landau scrubs in royal blue because they have to march exactly the embroidered scrub top they sell in the book store that you have to also buy. You also have to buy a name tag the first day it's around $15. Lots of money will be flowing out of our pocket lol.

I plan on trying to work, they suggested a max of 20hrs per week that's if you absolutely have to work.

What kind of white leather shoes? That's such a random choice of footwear. Did they recommend a brand or anything? And here I was thinking we could just wear Skechers, lol

Yeah like white leather sneakers, sketchers, new balance, asic, even those clog style nursing shoes. Just have to be ALL white, not canvases or any other materials and full coverage, non-skid, no slip on style. Kind of old school nursing style lol I think they just want everyone to look kind of the same.

Amazon.com: Landau Women's Natural Flare Leg Scrub Pant: Medical Scrubs Pants: Clothing

This is the scrub color and brand landau royal blue. They only sell the unisex in the book store. The embroidered scrub top in the book store at least has a couple sizing options, long, wide.

I've had to get titers and may have to get new immunizations as my records are incomplete. I am too old to have received the Chicken Pox vaccine, but I had Chicker Pox as a kid so I got a titer for that. My MMR records only show one dose, but that doesn't make any sense; got a titer for that too. Just started my Hep B vaccines as I have always waived it in the past and now I figured I'll just get it over with.

Haven't looked at the scrubs and shoes yet, but that's next. I'm not sure how much pre-class reading I'll do, but I will certainly pick something up. Any suggestions on reading material?

Just bought/received my first quarter books including a medical dictionary, pen lights. And digital recorder for about $180 using a combo of abebooks.com and Amazon. Although the books are used they are all in really great shape.

What kind of pen light did you end up getting? On Amazon most of the ones I'm seeing use an LED light, which I remember they recommended against
