Shoreline Community College Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello Everyone!

I am starting this thread to hopefully compile some extra information regarding acceptance into Shoreline Community College's RN program for Fall 2017. The application deadline was April 3rd, and acceptance letters are to be sent out 4-6 weeks after. Needless to say the suspense is not doing me any favors!!!

Has anyone else applied for Fall 2017? I have been reading on forums the minimum acceptance points by quarter (as far back as Fall 2011) - and it seems to range anywhere from 100.3 to 108.6.

Any info on number of applicants or when acceptance letters are being received would be greatly appreciated! Good luck everyone :D.

I also applied for Fall. Did you do your prereqs at SCC as well? Maybe we had classes together.

I'm pretty confident with my points, assuming everything is in order of course, and worse case I will apply again next quarter. I didn't apply anywhere else because I live next to the school and I want to keep my commute to a minimum. I know several people that have gone through the program and I'm excited to start!

Good to hear that you feel confident Ghosty!! I completed most of my pre reqs at Central Washington University because i originally planned on becoming a medic. After a loooooooooooooooooooooong credit evaluation process I should be sitting right around 104 point. What did the several people you know say about the program??

I wanted to a medic back in the day, but I didn't want to become a firefighter. In Seattle you can be an EMT-B with a private company, which I was, but being a medic requires being a firefighter. Too bad that was too long ago to get the EMT points. :x3:

The people I've talked have said that the course is intense but that it prepares you well for life as a nurse. I've also spoken with people that have worked with graduates of Shoreline and they said that the graduates are better prepared than average. Hopefully the praise still holds up!

As for my points, assuming my bonus classes are accepted I should be sitting at 109.25. Working as an NAC and keeping up my grades is the big boost, and I took most of my classes at Shoreline so I didn't have any transfer difficulties. Unless I screwed up the paperwork I'm confident that my points will be enough; I worked my tail off to get every point I could.

From what the director told me the cut-off is typically around 103, and that's what it was for Spring according to some people I know who got in. There have been quarters with very high cut-offs above 105, but that's the exception.

Good luck, and I hope to see you in the Fall!

Oh my. Graduated from there 27 years ago. Apparently I am old lol.

Hello! I've also applied for Fall Quarter at Shoreline Community College. Assuming I get credit for the bonus classes, I should be at 105.25 points. I know that makes me competitive but I'm incredibly nervous that it just won't be enough. I've heard Fall Quarter is generally the most competitive quarter. Getting my application in on time was a struggle too, because I got appendicitis a couple days before Winter grades posted so I wasn't able to pick up my transcript the day of. It was kind of a nightmare, I had my appendectomy surgery at midnight Thursday night/Friday morning and couldn't make it in on Friday because I was still at the hospital. I sent in my husband to pick up my transcripts after calling and verifying that they would allow that and they denied him. Then over the weekend the online application wouldn't let me get past Form E (no matter how many different servers I used - I even went to the library because I thought it was my computer). So I had to call the nursing office first thing on Monday and they had to put in my information manually on their end. I fortunately got it in around noon that Monday! I was so full of pain meds and still so sore so I'm hoping I didn't screw anything up or make a dumb mistake. I felt so horrible for doing so many things last minute but life has a tendency to throw you curveballs.

Just like Ghosty, I'm prepared to reapply for Winter quarter if need be (I'll just need to retake my Anatomy because I took it Winter of 2012 - they let me use it this quarter). Anyone else have a Bachelor's Degree? I have one, which means that I've been ineligible for financial aid for all my prerequisite classes at Shoreline Community College. I've been using my award money from my AmeriCorps service but it's almost gone. I've been told that if I'm accepted I can reapply for financial aid with the school - fingers crossed I get it because I honestly have no idea how I would afford it otherwise.

Ghosty - wow 109 should make you good as gold you shouldn't sweat it!! I was an EMT for 2 years at a private company. It provided great acute care experience, however, I got sick of all my favorite medics complaining about how they wish they got their RN all those years ago lol. I am not the biggest fan of how the EMS system is accredited, or how you lose your medic if you get a promotion to LT, Chief, ext (in the fire dept because thats the only way to escape barely minimum wage lol). I have also heard the program is rigorous, but I am confident that if i get in i will be close enough to the light at the end of the tunnel to power through the 2 years! The hard schooling will set us up perfectly for whatever field of medicine we choose. I hope i see you in fall as well!!

CarolynB - Ouch! appendicitis is no fun at all, I am amazed you got everything in on time! 105 should get you in unless the admission cut off this quarter is way higher than usual. My appendix actually ruptured a few years ago :( i played college football at CWU with a broken shoulder and the pain from a ruptured appendix put any other pain i have felt to shame! With all the adversity you faced just to get the application in you deserve to get in. I hope you are recovering well and that i see you in the Fall! Also, what did you get your BA in if you dont mind me asking?

Hi! Aww, thank you! I hope I get in too. I've been telling my friends if I get in I'm throwing a huge party and I'm not joking about that! My Bachelor's is in Health Studies from UW Bothell. I graduated Spring 2014

Needless to say i am either throwing a party or going on a vacation when/if i get in haha! i am very wound up with stress over being accepted. Wow a Bachelor's in Health will just contribute to your success in nursing school and practice. UW bothell is where i plan to apply for my BSN, if/when i ever achieve my RN lol.

Have you looked at the programs at Seattle U? You can straight to a Doctorate's degree in nursing (so an ARPN) with an RN degree. I went to an open house and it definitely sounds promising (not right now, but when and if I want to advance my degree further)

I have been discouraged to look into Seattle U because it is private, and even with grants would be very expensive. Every adviser I have spoken to has told me to check them out so i guess i should listen lol! If Shoreline doesn't work out this quarter i will definitely take a closer look at Seattle U. With the 15 points awarded for being an EMT on SCCs app, it makes me much more competitive and covers up my terrible chem grade XD (2.8).
