I am a new grad male nurse who was just hired and I am looking for some comfortable shoes.
My brother, as a UPS worker, who walks all day delivering parcels, recommended NIKE SHOX. He said his feet don't hurt anymore when getting off of work. I bought them last night and wore them for 20-30min this morning getting ready for work and my heels were aching.
I just returned them.
Any suggestions on comfortable shoes? My feet are precious and I would not like to stress them out.
Also try 'Shoes for Crews'. They come in a wide variety of styles and are totally non-slip. They were originally marketed to restaurant and food service places, where spills are frequent. My husband is a cashier and stands all day; he swears by them.
I have worn clogs for a million years, Danskos are by far the best.
Just yesterday I finished posting to a question similar to yours. My pedometer shows me at between 5000 and 6000 steps per eight hour shift, depending on my run. When I was a med aide, it was closer to 14000 steps. Our modern day term,"Mile." Comes from the Latin, "Mille." Which was 1000 steps of the average roman soldier. So do the math.
I am a male nurse, I used K-Swiss when I was a student due to they want white shoes, K-Swiss have some very comfortable walking shoes, very light and flex good at the sole.
My favorite, however, is Nike. Their running shoe, it has to be "Bowerman" series, or it is not their real running shoe. Forget the air this and air that, unless it is Bowerman. I like the "Pegasus" because I have a wide foot. Good luck.
Thanks everyone. I've decided to go shopping for a few hours and actually try on many of the suggestions. Don't like shopping very much but will have to because I don't want my feet to distract me from my patients/clients care. If I become uncomfortable and feet begin aching, there is a possiblity that the added stress could interfere with the quality of my work.
You might try Z-coils. They aren't cheap but they work amazingly well for heel pain, knee pain, and etc. http://www.zcoil.com/

I've tried almost every shoe know to man in my 34 years.
Started wearing Danskos in 2002 and will NEVER wear anything else. They make you stand correctly, walk right, give great support. My feet/legs/butt do NOT ache or hurt at the end of a 12 hour PLUS shift in ER, OR, PACU, TELE, etc.
Well worth the money. I have my original pair and 2 others I bought for myself for work. My daughter gave me another pair after she had my grandson as they no longer fit her. You need to try on several pairs as they are hand made. A good shoe store or Nordstroms will let you mix and match shoes from different pairs to get the perfect fit.
I LOVE them, problem is they NEVER wear out so can't justify getting new ones. GOOD LUCK>
