New Graduate Nurse Looking for a Job in Dallas or Austin
I'm a new grad in Houston. I know its about 4 hours away from Dallas, but you can try Triumph Healthcare. That's the only place I found hiring new grads, and they still are. Look it up. Don't know if there's one up there.

Injection in buttocks: 1" vs. 1 1/2" needle
I am a new grad myself and have been working in an LTAC for 2 months. The length of the needle as some of the replies have made clear depends on the client(patient); more cushion will most likely require a longer needle. As far as giving an IM in the gluteal site, evidence based practice, according to my Nursing Textbook (Potter and Perry) and my last year of Nursing school, shows that you risk damaging the sciatic nerve. You should give the injection ventro-gluteal (you can look that up online), which is a pocket of muscle (gluteus medius) in the hip. To find the landmark you put your palm of the hand on the client's greater trochanter, fan your hand with your thumb pointing toward the client's groin, and the spot is in the triangle made right near (or above) where your middle finger and index finger meet. Click the following link and scroll down and you can actually see a picture at this forum: http://forum.mesomorphosis.com/steroid-forum/ventrogluteal-the-sweet-spot-134274390.html Hope this helps. The first time I gave it here it made me nervous. After the first two, it was a piece of cake, and I liked giving it there. Your client only has to turn a bit on the side. Plus, I don't recall anyone saying it hurt. Most of them said "have you gave it already" and I've alread put the safety on the needle.

Shoes for Men
yup, thats what i did. I finally liked the chad johnsons by reebok. Very cushiony (if that's indeed a word). They are the zig zag looking shoes. Alone they weren't the best looking, but they certainly felt comfortable. I actually were them yesterday for my first 12 hour shift (since i have been in orientation) and i was tired, but my feet weren't nearly as tired as when i did my clinicals.

Shoe Advice
I dont use forums very often. Sorry if I offended you by posting this topic. In addition, I tried searching but didn't find anything recent (2010). If you know how to delete this then go ahead, I don't mind, or teach me how to delete this. It would have been more useful to show me a link to a recent post then to have taken the time to write with such a bothered tone. Regardless, thanks for your reply. And: Don't Worry. Be Happy. :)

Shoes for Men in Nursing
Thanks everyone. I've decided to go shopping for a few hours and actually try on many of the suggestions. Don't like shopping very much but will have to because I don't want my feet to distract me from my patients/clients care. If I become uncomfortable and feet begin aching, there is a possiblity that the added stress could interfere with the quality of my work.

Shoes for Men
Thanks, thats great to know. I went a little earlier to a finish line, champs, and foot locker, but the employees there seem to dismiss my inquiry about comfortable shoes and begin telling me "these are the 2010 model" of whatever they are trying to sell me. So I try them on, but 2010 doesn't equal to comfort, only trendy. So I guess they believe I don't want to spend the money and as a result direct me to the clearance isle. I've decided to wait and see the feedback I get and go shopping this weekend.

Shoes for Men in Nursing
I am a new grad male nurse who was just hired and I am looking for some comfortable shoes. My brother, as a UPS worker, who walks all day delivering parcels, recommended NIKE SHOX. He said his feet don't hurt anymore when getting off of work. I bought them last night and wore them for 20-30min this morning getting ready for work and my heels were aching. I just returned them. Any suggestions on comfortable shoes? My feet are precious and I would not like to stress them out.

Shoe Advice
I recently graduated from Lone Star College in Kingwood, TX with a ADN. Just started working (currently in Orientation) for Triumph The Heights (Houston) and I want help with comfortable shoes to wear. What are some really comfortable shoes? I bought NIKE SHOX last night cuz my brother, a UPS driver, hence lots of walking while delivering parcels, said his feet didn't hurt at the end of a days work when wearing Nike Shox. I wore them on for about 30 min in the morning while getting ready for work and my heels began aching. I just returned from returning them. Any suggestions?

How long after taking NCLEX-RN did you receive your licence
Thanks to all of you. When I verify my license on the TX BON website it still has me as a GN, thats why I'm asking. Maybe it'll change this week coming up. Methodists Hospital Applications ask for my license number. Thanks again for your input.

How long after taking NCLEX-RN did you receive your licence
I'm in Houston, TX and took my NCLEX exam on Feb 10, 2010. I paid for the early results (become available 48 hours after testing). I passed :). Now I am wondering when will I recieve my license or when will it become displayed on the BON website. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Penlight Help
Thanks for your insight. I also asked a few nurses I know personally and I received the advice to purchase an inexpensive one by most. But two nurses, one of them my cousin, told me to pay a little more and get something I like and that even though its a little more expensive you'll feel good about the gear. I guess it depends on the individual, on how well he/she takes good care of belongings and whether you feel its worth it. Once again, thanks.
