Sheridan College RPN Sample Weekly Timetable??

Published

Hi all. I'm new here and excited to be starting the RPN program at Sheridan College in January 2016! I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what a typical weekly timetable will look like for first semester and onward?? I'm in the process of arranging childcare for my young children and trying to get an idea of the number of daycare hours required. Also, how much time should I budget for homework and studying per week? Thank in advance!

Curlykate, I am in the program at sheridan. started last year may and if I had to do over I wouldn't have gone there. Some serious changes should made for it to be work. Maybe look into other schools first

Hi Kimjas Espina,

I'm a recent new graduate of the program. When I started my first semester, I was in school 5 days a week (M-F), you can try and re-arrange your classes if it works with your schedule so that you can have a day off. Your classes vary from a 2hr or 3hr length of the class as some are hybrid (meaning an in-class and online portion). The hardest part of the first semester for me is probably anatomy class, but it is doable. You will get clinical placement every semester. I recommend studying really well for anatomy class and mathematics for nurses as a lot of people get held back a semester because they don't pass the course. The program does become difficult as your progress, as with any nursing program but it does prepare you well to pass the CPNRE exam and is DOABLE if you put in the work. I also recommend seeking out opportunities to observe/participate in procedures being done at your clinical placement and just be open to doing anything because it's a chance for you to learn. You will have lab classes which include learning hands-on skills and applying them to simulated scenarios. Take the time to go in the lab on your own time to practice your skills as it will not only benefit you during simulated exams but as well as help you gain confidence in performing these skills during your clinical placements.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the heads up. How was the school by the way? Was the instructors helpful?

The school overall is good, the main building is fairly old and has not had any renovations, but the nursing lab room has been renovated and is very up to date with new equipment and high-quality simulation mannequin. The library has been cleaned and upgraded some of its furniture, but I like the newer part of the school called A wing as it just looks better and cleaner.

Professors are helpful, but you need to really ask/speak up if you don't understand something because they will not chase after you.

@Sourpatch Nurse hi I just got accepted to sheridan for rpn may 2021, I would like to know how was the program overall, did you find it really hard or was it manageable, is the program doable while having a part time job, I live around york university and the commute is about 1 and half hour to get there, just want to make sure im making the right decision as I heard many good things about this program and school ?

Hey, congrats on your acceptance! I personally did not have a part-time job while going through with the program, but I had friends who did and they completed the program at the same time as me. So it is 100% manageable! I would say to really just manage your time and do assignments in advance if you are going to work part-time as work can pile up very quickly. I enjoyed the program, as skills lab, they teach very well and was my favourite course! They also prep you fell to pass the CPNRE exam as all of my friends passed on the first try. The school also supplies you well in the beginning and provides you with skills lab kits that you get to keep and other equipment too. I really hope this helps you a little in your decision-making. It's a good program. I wish you luck in your nursing journey!! ?
