I live five minutes from Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. I was just accepted into University of Maryland School of Nursing (Baltimore) but at their satellite campus in Rockville which is two seconds from the hospital and I will probably do clinicals there. I am not a nurse yet but can tell you it is a very safe area to live. Very nice here and I love it. Not far from DC.
I grew up 5 minutes from Shady Grove and I still live there now. I'll be graduating from nursing school in May and there is no way I'll be applying to Shady Grove. Just so you know, in this area, it has a reputation as "Shady Grave". Nearly everyone I know has some horrible story or another about that hospital, and it's so bad, we all request to be taken to Suburban Hospital if we need an ambulance. My friend's mother was an RN at SG and she had to leave because it was hurting her reputation as a nurse educator. Just thought you'd like to know that.

i took a travel assignment in their icu a few years ago . . . i'll second this.
I'll be a new grad in December and won't be applying there despite living about 5 minutes away. I have a friend who was an ICU nurse there. She hasn't said anything particularly horrible except that the staffing ratios are pretty bad. I can only imagine it's gotten worse in this economy. Also, community hospitals aren't generally a good idea for new grads. Bigger teaching hospitals have much better new grad programs.

I've posted this question on the traveler forum; so I'm posting it here if I can get a quicker response:
Is there anyone here ever worked or currently working at Shady Grove Adventist in Rockville, MD; more specifically the PICU. Any information is welcomed. RN:pt ratio; traveler friendly; safe area to live; types of patients; patient acuity?
Thanks
