  1. Rent first and get close to Parkland. There are very nice apartments in the immediate area with some great benefits. The Lemmon Oaklawn area is how can I say very mixed bag of gays, preppies and medical people. Gated apartments are the way to go but really look at what you are comfortable with. Craigslist for Dallas is a good internet resource. No commute is great if possible for any job and looking before you buy is the best thing to do.
  2. Thanks for some info that our profession that doesn't face these issues as a whole adequately.
  3. Totally awesome info. Thanks.
  4. Edited contents per personal decision.
  5. Old nurses never really give any nurse a break in regards to mistakes. Pack mentalityas a whole. Pecking orders exist with nurses. Anything like perceprtions about if a staff member is respected by doctors, has better schedule or considered "a know it all" will start the backstabbing. Very sad but true. Lead by example with this types of nurses and don't follow the pack. Keep your side of the street clean with regards of undermining and gossiping. Hey,a thought. A discussion about safety issues and education to prevent mistakes.
  6. Time passes. Worked in the area and meet the doctors and nurses that were involved. The surgeon left the country and never charge with any crimes. Tenet sold the hospital and was bought by another company with major shifts in the staff. The Flight team was laid off but got other offer to remain in the area and probably better. Tenet settled and the stock fell. Tenet national headquarters moved to Dallas,Texas with Broadlane/nursing vendor management for all Tenet hospitals and other hospitals. Lifetime consequences for the treated patients. Only 54 millions dollars for many years of fraudulent billing and Tenet's highest costs in the market billing practices. Hoping for special places in Hell for the hospital administrators and doctors. Any deaths per these procedures are murder in my eyes but it was just billing practices to ensure the bottom line and meet the new numbers in the next fiscal year. The creepy thing was the majority of nurses that just were not noticing the fraud as a whole the happenings and never really understood the events and this was in 2003 with national news media coverage.
  7. Not a quiter but consider a different view of the problem. You have money invested anyway. Don't know about your current classroom situation because maybe there is path to transfering your efforts to different careerpath. I believe that any knowledge is good knowledge. I will never regret becoming a nurse because of the people, places, self knowledge and shared team life saving experiences I had done with my 22 years. There are many days and too many with verbal abuse and very difficult patients and doctors to deal with. Continous unhealthy compassion isn't 24/7 at your expense. How you deal with boundaries and people will be a skill that you will need not matter what career path you choose. If I walked away this morning I have done everying I have wanted in life because I choose everyday to live in the moment. Bare with me. See a instructor about a Plan B like using your current school efforts to transfer to a maybe different healthcare program that will give you job security or satisfaction. Does your school have career counseling and testing for different and better career path? Maybe consider ultrasoundgraphy or CST programs. Good for you for looking and identifying that a problem exists but really do the work to work toward your own idea of satisfaction. Are there any fears that need to be address because how you deal with stress is related to handling of past experiences? Best wishes.
  8. I would go to Employee Health ASAP and fill out a First Incident of Injury. My brain is failing me but there is a offical form for Worker's Comp. Keep journal of all contacts with who what and why with EH and all paperwork. You need baseline lab work for Hep B,C and HIV and serial lab work for recheck. OSHA website has info. Get the Policy and Procedure and Employee Handbook get informed about workplace injury at your hospital. Where was the charge nurse and house supervisor with this event?
  9. Thanks. Did you attend? Looking for someone has completed or in the process>
  10. Asking for details for a great retired HFD Paramedic that I have worked with interested in the RN transition programs with college credits. The 411 like costs, experiences with the process, locations and duration of the program. He lives in the Houston area. Thanks and have a good weekend.
  11. Look at the CNA/NNOC push for national Safe Staffing. The fight is ongoing and in Texas and other states beside CA. Sorry about your pain. The management is putting the legal responsibility directly on your shoulders by a written form. I have friends and I have documented that I ordered the missing med on the MAR. I have charted about delays for meds and reasons for delays. Yes,I have listed events and emergencies about being delayed from giving meds due to emergencies. I have charted charge nurse and management notified of need for help or reasons for delays and any responses by the notified parties. You might think that the unanswered questions from your manager is a answer that you time has come for different and safer employment.
  12. I attended the classes as an employee in the late 80's by going to the Friday classroom day free. I am an ADN but still go to Parkland when ever possible to attend classes.
  13. CCN in Baltimore. Each hospital pays different with all the agencies.
  14. There is always time limit for temp work and always the pressure to be staff. Have a Plan B and rotate your jobs.
  15. AAS is All About Staffing which is HCA nursing staff company and vendor management.
