  1. I would def get roomates, you will pay much much less. Also, I hate to say it but northeastern i think has the highest tuition out of all the nursing schools in mass. I am a second degree student at umass boston and pay about 1/5 of what it would cost me to go to NE. Some of the cheaper areas to live in are brighton, allston, quincy, and they aren't bad areas to live in. good luck!
  2. if you ultimately want to be a pedi nurse than that is where you should start. No reason to work w/ adults first. Same goes for NICU. start where you want, they WILL hire you if they like you and feel you have potential. I work in an ER not a pedi floor but i was referring to my pedi rotation at winchester hospital. I wouldn't start there though for pedi i would start at a large teaching hospital. I just feel you would get more learning opportunities that way (ie specialty units).
  3. what do the horror stories refer to? I go to school in boston and loved my pedi rotation. all the nurses on the floor were helpful too and LOVED thier jobs which i have never seen on an adult floor. I know someone who went from childrens to umass medical and was so glad. She really loves it there. New grads in boston make 25-28/hr depending on what hospital you are at and that rate also doesn't include differentials which can boost it up to ~33/h. I am not sure what umass medical in worcester pays new nurses but i do know the cost of living in significantly cheaper than boston. i would be they don't go under 25 though. Hope this helps some.
