BSN does not mean better... Sometimes education is overrated!
I just have a quick comment... It seems as though alot of times we dicuss the ADN who has "been around the block" and therefore is more mature and has life experience. The issue that I wonder about and have experienced is the ADN that was 17 right out of HS and got thier ADN and now are working on the floor as a 19 yo RN. This SCARES me...at 19 there is NO WAY i was ready to take on the responsibility to be an RN. I think there may be a few exceptions to the rule but i dont know many 19 yo's that are ready for that. I would not trust my health or that of my child in the hands of a 19 yo whether they were educated or not. I experienced a group of 19 and 20 yo New Grads that came to ME when I was still a student and were asking me questions about med calculations and other things. It made me really nervous. What do you all thing of the BSN in this capacity?(just out of curiosity)

MedSurg Class Tips Please Help
All you can do is your best! With that said: - Review and rewrite all notes as soon as possible after class. I try to schedule at least a half hour to do this after every class to make the notes stick. - Get a good NCLEX review book and do questions from the topic you are being tested on. Be sure to read rationales, they sometimes explain things better than the text and teacher ever could - Get a good study group! - Read before class and go through and read the things you do not understand again after class - Make a study guide for each topic and use that to study rather than reading the notes over and over again, I find that if I am reading the notes I start to memorize rather than understand. - Take breaks often! - Make index cards for anything that is straight memorization and carry them with you all the time. When you have a few minutes during the day look at them. That is how I have been doing well! Good Luck!

Help w/ an assignment please?
If you are a nurse manager..a. What are your responsibilities? b. What environment do you work in and how does it effect the way you do your job? (specific stressors) c. What are some characteristics that you consider vidal for a nurse manager? I have to write a paper and I have little to no contact with nurse managers. I don't even know what responsibilities they have! The paper is on what personality characteristics nurse managers need to be effective! Just some quick answers or feedback would be great and make this easier! THANKS in advance! Kerri

Where were u 9/11/01?
Senior year...health class...they were trying to keep the school under control so they were only telling us that an accident had happened. That was when the kids started to be pulled from class....mostly the ones who's fathers/brothers/aunts/uncles were in the towers. They reluctantly let us watch the news. My mom pulled me from school about 10 mins later. That day my father's care broke down...we live about 40 mins from NYC and right next to another airport which was being threatened...my father sprinted 3 miles home to be with us.

sorry...got frustrated:( ....thanks all for listening

Be Careful!
It's strange how sometimes on these forums people can vent and get thier frustrations out and be supported and other times they can be made to feel foolish. I just need a place to vent and possibly hear other peoples opinions. I wanted to thank people for the supportive replies, I however dont think that anything i said could be considered "ripping you a new one". I am insulted. The reason that we can't direct this at the people who saod it is becuase we are students who are forced to work with these particular RN's for the remainder of the semester and prefer to stay on thier good sides so that they will continue to help us and support a learning environment.

Be Careful!
I am a senior nursing student. I was SO dissapointed on the unit the other night when a group of RN's were talking loudly about "that new GN who made a HUGE med error" they explained details and talked about how disgusted they were. They gave enough details that me and my classmates could figure out who they were talking about(a girl that just graduated in may). We were so upset b/c this could be us in just a year. We were later discussing with our instructor and decieded that we don't care what your opinion is of us as a GN or an RN but please just keep your talk and opinions about our mistakes or short-comings to yourself. If you have some important feedback or support please confront us directly. I'm sure the GN did not want all of the students knowing about her mistake, I am sure she feels bad enough about it as it is. Just a reminder from a sensitive student....be careful what you say and how loud you say it.

Fail math exam and we are out!!!! Help!!!
I don't know about everyone else but when I entered nursing school we were warned that nursing would be our LIVES for the next few years. We were warned that it would be hard and that a lot of the work would be self learning. I know that some of the expectations seem unrealistic and that nursing school seems horribly time consuming, if it wasnt I would be worried about being a good nurse. I am personally happy that the tests are hard and good scores are required. I am also happy that those who can't cut it, are out, no questions asked. I wouldnt want a sub-par nurse caring for me. I also would not want a nurse who wasnt willing to put in some extra time to learn about and research my illness if they were unsure. I think that unfortunantly you cant have everything handed to you in nursing school or else you would not be prepared for the real world. With that said, I know that you will do great. Just pick up a book, a GREAT one is Math for Meds by Curren. This book really goes over everything step by step, it is also not that large so it can really be done in a short amount of time. GOOD LUCK!!!

Advice on Med-Surge 1 !!!
I would suggest lots of flash cards, high lighters and coffee. We had med-surg 1 our first semester and it isnt bad if you keep up with the reading and make sure that you review and anatomy and phys that you are unsure of! GOOD LUCK!

Prioritization Question
u can not ask questions about the questions. You dont have the pt in front of you. you have to just take the ABC's and Maslow and go from there..... Urine/Feces in a bed, not so bad even the fall resulting from an impatient pt would not be as bad as a pt having an allergic reaction, dsypnea, or some other effect from morphine, the man in restraints would come directly after....the other 1 seem like the obvious ones to omit If you read into qu. like that it will take you 8000000000000 hours to get through one test I agree no woulda, coulda, shoulda........

"No way in H-E- double hocky sticks"
Keep your hopes up! I switched majors then worked my butt off to get all my pre-reqs got good grades and still got put on a waiting list for an entire year b/c they accept the freshman who came in as BSN majors before they consider transfers/switching majors. I hated it at first but now im glad that i got to take classes to finish a bio minor and to take alot of classes that pertained to health, I have a much bigger knowledge base than alot of my classmates! It will all work out in the end! *Everything Happens for a Reason*

ERI Testing
It sounds as tho ERI is like MEDS (medspub.com). That is what we have at our school. We pay 82 dollars a semester to have access to specific ones that our professors require to pass the class. However MEDS does have the rationales and is very very informative! I love it and would reccomend it to anyone!

Waitlists
My BSN program at a state college never had a wiatlist until last year. I had all my pre-reqs done and the grades to go with them but got wait listed after 80 applyed and only 60 got excepted! I started the program this fall after taking an entire year of pointless classes.
