Hi ya'll, I'm in the process of registering for classes at Excelsior, may someone please explain what SG 101 is all about. Before deciding on EC I was reading several posts and came across other students chatting about it.
-Is this SG 101 affiliated with EC?
-Is it beneficial?
-Are the contents updated if not affiliated with EC?
Thank you
I have taken one of the new exams. Excelsior changed their exams Oct 2015. Some of the material on the new nursing exams SG 101 will not help you. I used them for the older exams and they were fine but when I took the new LS 3 exam some of those questions if you did not have the book you would have gotten wrong. I have my SG 101 for life span 3 as well and it did not touch that test. I am not sure why they changed the test, but if you're going to use SG101 make sure you also have a nursing book. Not sure if SG 101 works for pre reqs I just did the classes it was easier for me. But you may want to go ahead and start getting your nursing books.
The SG101 LS3 study guide was updated to cover the new content guide outline (as well as Foundations, Repro, LS2...) The study guide covers everything listed in the outline and summarizes the new textbooks/editions. You are always welcome to check with us to see if the study guide you are using is the latest version. Perhaps you had the old version of the study guide?
Health Safety & Health Differences study guides are being revised as the college issued new content guide outlines at the end of December.
-Is this SG 101 affiliated with EC?
MyStudyGroup101/StudyGroup101/SG101 is not affiliated with Excelsior College, CLEP, or DSST in any way. We do write study guides to correspond to the exam content guides issued by the college and make them available at what we think is an extremely reasonable price. There is no contract or obligation associated with the use of our study guides other than the License Agreement to not resell, share or redistribute the material.
-Is it beneficial?
Some students love us - some don't. Everyone has their own learning style and you must find what bests suits your needs. Remember during your studies: Google is your friend! And, YouTube has a video for everything! You can do a search of allnurses to review previous posts from students.
We try very hard to include everything you may need to pass the exam! The study guide proper is usually less than 200 pages but we include charts, cheat sheets, review bullets, student submitted flashcards, pictures, and weblinks - and anything else we can think of that may help you learn and retain the material and PASS those exams! Each study guide includes hundreds ( 400+) of practice questions including SATA. (Educational studies show that more practice questions equals higher exam scores.) We also offer an audio review companion so you can listen to topics on the go.
-Are the contents updated if not affiliated with EC?
We update as soon as the content guides become available - updates are not immediate, we do need time to review, research and edit :).
ADMIN - I hope this is not an advertisement violation! I was trying to answer the questions posted.
Good luck to everyone in their studies!

Thank you, I appreciate you letting us know. I'll email SG101 and notify them.
I like SG 101. I use the materials to study on the go so I don't have to carry books. I still supplement my studying by using text books (med surg & ATI) I used in school before. I love all of the practice questions, with rationale provided. I took health safety exam in December and passed with a B. I'm currently studying for Fundamentals & I see there were some changes in the study guide. When I looked at it, it looks like a few things have been added.
yo ucan do information literacy through tor college credit and I read yesterday that they are accepting it through penn foster college also but you have to get approval from your advisor first. No book for info lit but tor has a short study guide that comes with the course. You can do it in a couple hours or so for only 135 dollars.
So the study guide for info literacy offered by Tor is enough to get through the course & take exam at the end through them, without needing a book?
