SFSU Generic MSN for Fall 2010

Published

I went to their website today and found that the nursing application has now been posted. Due date is January 15, 2010. Now it's time to bug my professors for another round of forms and letters. I have one letter, but need the form to get filled out. It's so embarrassing to go back to the same people. I feel like I owe them the world. What's the most number of requests anyone has asked one person?

Anyway back to the application itself. On it you have to choose a Graduate Program Emphasis. If my goal is to become a Diabetes Educator, should I choose Adult Acute CNS or Maternal/Child CNS, or should I choose Public Health? Does anyone know if we can change specialties mid-stream?

Thanks.

Not a problem guys! ;)

Sugarlips,

I suggest you call the Financial Aid office to find out when your awards for Fall 2010/Spring 2011 will be made available for viewing.

Good Luck to all!

It said next week, so I'll wait one more week I guess.

Hello Everyone!!!

The Department will start sending out letters this coming Monday. I am a getting very nervous.

Please post once you hear from them. Thanks!! ;)

Hi everyone,

I had been following the posts on this thread since January. First, thank you for all the valuable information, as many of the questions you raised were ones I had myself (i.e. the worry over GPA cut off, where to get letters of rec, what speciliaty to pick and can one change mid-stream).

I applied to the program, with a concentration of acute care CNS. The waiting is irksome, and based on what I am hearing - it would be great to get a letter at least by Thursday. As I hear that acceptance letters go out first, then waitlist, then rejection. I suppose if Friday comes and I have heard nothing, I will probably cry once and then regroup and ready myself for the next wave of applications. I am anxious too, so if anyone hears anything - please, please post. I have heard from previous years that if your application is still in Department Review while letters are being sent, that that is a good sign. As long as there is no "We are sorry but due to the shear number of applicants we cannot grant you acceptance at this time." So if you log in this week, and your still in review, then that's a good thing. I wish everyone success, and I did not go to orientation, but I hope and pray I will be granted the opportunity to get further acquainted with everyone. Rock n' roll & best wishes.

Great info on the status. I've been wondering if this would ever change. I finally did get my financial acceptance link to be activated, and went ahead and accepted. Hopefully I'll need it. I'm also still waiting on my ABSN application for Mount St. Mary's here in Los Angeles. I won't hear back from them until June, however. My only wish is that it comes down to where I get to make the choice.

SugarLips, that is fantastic news! Congratulations on your acceptance. (I know letters are official, but honestly it sounds to me like you are IN!) After I read your post, I logged in and mine is still in Department Review, no link to activate any acceptance. Then I also checked my mail and zilch. But I guess if the letters are mailed today, that makes sense. Initially I thought we would recieve letters today, but I guess I was mistaken. If I were you I would be very happy, really I think that is indicative that you are accepted. I am excited and happy for you! Then, since I didn't recieve the "We are sorry..." message, I am hopeful.

@VanHalenFan (Love the name) - I think the financial activation is not that indicative of being accepted, but thanks for keeping me motivated. I was previously worried because so many had seen active links for 2010-2011 financial acceptance, and mine still said processing. So I was excited to see that at least there is money out there in the small chance that I am accepted into the program. I've gotten pretty used to denial letters at this point.

If we're accepted, will it be reflected when we log onto the application status page before we get a letter?

OH, OH, OH... I am sorry Sugar (and everyone), I did not make the connection. I misunderstood, and thought you were logging into the application status portal, and didn't know you meant the financial aid one. My bad, I apologize. Nonetheless, I am still pushing for you Sugar.

On the other question, in previous years, those who were accepted did not see an immediate change in thier status, and others hypothesized that the reason this is because the nursing department takes some time to inform the graduate school of whom they have accepted. So I believe we recieve the letter first, and then LATER, our status changes. They may very well do things differently this year, so when I had misunderstood Sugar, I had believed that they very well could have updated/and or changed thier way of doing things. But based on last year's protocol, the status will not change from "department review." In fact, if it stays in department review, that errs on the side of being positive. :jester:

^So we get a letter from the SON? I thought (and I don't really know) is that the SON gives word to Grad Admissions of who has and hasn't been accepted and they send letters out. I just hope we get our letters soon, either way so we can stop being tortured.

Ha ha. Tortured is the best word to describe this whole experience.

In other news, I just talked to the financial aid office to find out if I needed to fill out the promisary note now that I accepted the loans. The due date is August 1, so no need to fill that out until we know we are in.

Anyone receive anything today? My status still says Department Review.
