Hi everyone, I'm creating a thread for the prospective students applying to the fall 2016 SFSU ELMSN program. It would be great to see the stats of fellow cohorts for the program!
Hi, I got an interview and my stats were
GPA in the last 60 units: 3.8-3.9 (not quite sure the exact GPA, but somewhere between that)
GRE writing: 4.5
Health experience: 200+ hours volunteering at county hospital
I didn't have too much health experience, but i had a lot of other volunteering experiences doing humanitarian work.
@Akm06d
My stats were about the same as @Karenara, I got a 4 on the GRE, but I have had my EMT certification since 2006 and I've had paid Healthcare experience in a variety of applications. How much that will actually matter remains to be seen. I've done all I can do, now all I can do is wait.
@Karenara
Without going into specifics, how do you think your interview went? What was your read coming out of the room? And do you think we'll actually hear something back in the next week?
@bellanoche86 I feel like i did just "okay". I definitely could have improved some of my answers and a question caught me off guard... Honestly don't know what to expect at this point. I have been so nervous all week and I'm mentally preparing myself for the worst outcome just incase (i have a twisted way of thinking haha). We will definitely hear something back this week. When exactly? No idea, which is the worst part. Time to compulsively check my email starting monday morning....Really hope we get in.
Btw, what track did you choose? I'm pediatrics.
Hey there,
Here are my stats if they're helpful to you:
3.8 overall (not sure what my last 60 units were, probably 3.7?)
4.0 post-bac pre-reqs
4.5 GRE
2+ years (paid) experience with direct patient care and several years prior of relatable work.
Good luck with your future applications! Something will work out soon!
@ PPMM
Did you interview this last week? And what specialty did you select?
@Karenara
I applied for the Women's Health track. I don't think we'll hear anything early in the week if we hear back next week. I think they'll do it on Friday close to the end of the day lIke they did for interviews. At least that's what I'm telling myself to avoid compulsive email checking. We have the same twisted mindset as you've put it, I've been preparing myself for the worst case scenario since I left my interview. Some would view this as a lack of confidence, I view it as a way to avoid a crushing blow should the odds not be in my favor (gotta lighten the mood with a little hunger games humor :-)). Anticipating the worst outcome is almost a form of self preservation, by preparing for the worst we can only look up. I wish I would have thought to ask how they are dividing up the spots based on specialty. I haven't seen very many Women's Health tracks on this board, maybe that'll work to my advantage. I've probably rambled on enough. All we can do now is wait and see 😀
@Karenara
I think I did ok, but of course after I left it thought of 1000 ways I could have improved my answers. I wasn't totally shocked by the questions. I did some research ahead of the interview to get an idea of the most commonly asked questions in MSN interviews. Because of that research I had at least a rudimentary answer for most of the questions. The rest was just off the cuff. I'm trying not to second guess myself but it's really hard not to. During the whole interview I kept reminding myself to breathe and be myself. Now I just have to belive that myself was enough.
Hi Akm06d,
So I received an interview invitation last minute, since someone cancelled. Here are my stats:
2.9 undergrad GPA (last 60 was 3.3)
3.5 prereq GPA
4.5 GRE writing
Throughout college I had years of experience volunteering at hospitals, leadership positions in pre-health organizations and residential life, I also volunteered with an org that reaches out to underserved communities and promotes higher education and offers tutoring and mentorship services.
After graduation, I received my CNA certificate and now work as a CNA at a patient centered medical home, and I currently volunteer with an organization that offers free clinic services to underserved communities in San Francisco.
I am also a reapplicant, and was waitlisted last year.
Hi All,
It looks like they are beginning to email students acceptance notifications, I just received mine about 30 min ago. After all the hard work to get to this point I'm experiencing a moment of disbelief that I have achieved the first hurdle of getting into a program. I would like to thank everyone that has posted on this forum over the last few months, having this as a resource has really helped me deal with the stress and anxiety that this process evokes. It has felt more like a joint struggle then a solitaire toil. Good luck to everyone as you hear your fate :-)

To anyone who actually got an interview: what kinda stats did you have? Like GRE, GPA work experience etc. just want to know where my areas of improvement need to be. For comparison, I had a 3.29 GPA , 4.0 on GRE writing and I had about 2 years of experience working in a residential care faculty.
Thanks, any pointers would be much appreciated.
