Sfsu elmsn fall 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone, I'm creating a thread for the prospective students applying to the fall 2016 SFSU ELMSN program. It would be great to see the stats of fellow cohorts for the program!

Hey Karenara,

Give SFSU a call or email, as the poster above mentioned, they are really nice and helpful. They actually contacted me when my transcripts were not received (that's how I knew I needed to resend them). I was told that they have begun the initial screening and that my application cannot be sent to the nursing school until they receive and process my transcripts. I wish I could say it won't affect our chances, but I honestly think it could. They receive so many applicants that they might just move forward with the complete applications and when they finally receive ours, who knows at that point... I've had a mess of an application cycle this year and will probably have to reapply in the fall to several programs because of administrative/requirement errors on both my part and the schools' parts.

Totally understand how you feel. I've been so stressed about this. It just really sucks that i've worked so hard up to this point and it could all be ruined because of some insiginificant administrative issues. Best of luck to all of you

Hey Karenara,

I actually emailed them regarding NursingCAS a few weeks back. They told me that as long as it was paid for by the deadline, it will still be considered. Whether or not getting the materials late will affect chances...I have no idea. Like PPMM, I'd like to say it doesn't.

Does anybody know if they will hold interviews for the ELMSN program? The information webinar said they may start doing them this year.

Hey All,

This is my first forum post ever and I could not think of a better topic to start with. I am a first time applicant to the SFSU ELMSN program. This is my dream program as it would let accomplish everything I would like to in one program instead of having to go through several programs to reach my goals. I'm really nervous about my chances of getting in. My overall GPA is not the greatest, although I've improved significantly over the last 60 units. I believe my GPA for the last 60 units is around a 3.8 give or take. I got a 4.0 on the written portion of the GRE, I thought about taking it again but that test is a bear. I have 800 hours of recent health care experience, but I also worked as an EMT for one year and I maintain my EMT certification. In addition, I have experience working in mental health and research. I'm keeping my fingers crossed at this point and hoping for the best. Good luck to everyone else that has applied.

@vinh222

As far as I know they will not be doing interviews this year, but this could change if they have more applicants that they feel are qualified then they have available spots. I personally would love to get an interview, maybe that'll give me the chance to explain some of my past. We'll know soon what they decide. Good luck to you.

@ladylifter91

Where on the waitlist did you end up and where on the waitlist did you end? I'm also applying for the CNS-Women's Health. If you don't mind my asking what are your stats and what experiences did you add over the last year to make yourself more competitive?

@bellanoche86 Thanks, good luck to you as well! You sound like an extremely qualified candidate! I just wish there were more seats in the cohort.. The size has definitely dwindled over the past years. Technically, we're not even competing to be 1 of 16 but rather 1 of 4 (or 5) depending on which specialty you applied for. This is my top choice as well for nursing school. It's such a killer to have to wait till April or May to find out decisions!

Looks like interviews are going to be conducted in April. I just got an email from SFSU stating they will be conducting an initial screening of eligible applicants and should invite candidates to interview around March 21st... Final decisions should be out 2nd week of April

I got that email too. In a way, I'm glad they're doing interviews. On the otherhand, now I'm a bit more worried since I'll have to start prepping. At least we get to hear back from them a bit earlier.

I interviewed with them in November and should admit the questions caught me off guard a bit. I could have prepared much better, which is why I may have been waitlisted. The last few interviews I've had went much better because I "practiced" at home. If you google it, there's plenty of sample questions and things to think about. No one will actually ask those questions because they're so generic, but actually verbalizing those concepts made me feel much more comfortable.

My interview with SFSU was very standardized, which was odd but overall a good thing. They'll probably come up with questions you won't see on any site intended to "prepare you" for the nursing school interview, but it helps to be able to fluently discuss diverse issues nurses face. I received an offer for the FNP program at Samuel Merritt and will almost certainly accept, but wish everyone luck in the next 6 weeks of anxiety for SFSU. :)

@benrz Thank you for sharing your tips and experience interviewing with SFSU! Congratulations on your acceptance to the Samuel Merritt FNP program. I was offered a seat for the CM program and plan to accept as well, although SFSU is still my top choice. It just really worries me that there are only 16 seats for the entire cohort when there are so many qualified candidates...

May I ask how the format/style of your interview was (group, individual, panel)? Thanks so much for your insight.
