SFSU BSN Fall 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello, I created this post to see the overall applicant pool applying on Fall 2013 for the academic year 2014-2015. I wanted to open a new thread for those of you who are planning to apply to the BSN prelincensure program to SFSU, to share additional information, support each other, and to see how fierce the competition will be for this upcoming academic year.

For you,

Overall GPA:

Prereq GPA:

TEAS V Score:

Supplemental Criteria:

I haven't finished all of the requirements but when I do I'll update it.

Overall GPA: 3.55

Prereq GPA: 3.44 (still need physio lab and anatomy)

TEAS V Score: N/A (still in progress)

Supplemental Criteria: over 100 hours at SFGH (multi-cultural/health-related work), 3 semesters of Spanish (bilingual), and letter of recommendation (if applicable).

Thank you all and I wish all of you the best of luck, may the odds be ever in your favor!

Has anyone heard anything? I assume they'll be interviewing students in the middle of the pack. From what I've heard they've already tossed out people they aren't even considering, and decided who they'll be accepting no matter what. My guess is they'll be interviewing those who don't fit into either of those categories to round out the program.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances which are out of our control, the School of Nursing Admissions Committee has decided to delay implementation of applicant interviews by a year. Thus BSN applicants for the Academic Year 2014-2015 will not be interviewed. School of Nursing supplemental applications will instead be evaluated based on GPA, prerequisite coursework, TEAS V results, and supplemental criteria as has been done for the past three years. We anticipate decision notices will be sent late April/early May 2014."

There you have it.

Hi, I'm also a fall 2014 applicant. My stats:

Overall GPA: 3.2

Prereq GPA: 3.7ish

Teas V: 94%

Supplemental: bilingual, 3 years of paid work experience and volunteer experience

Pretty crazy to find out there aren't interviews after all! On the one hand I'm somewhat relieved because I was getting nervous that I hadn't heard anything. But I was sort of looking forward to having the opportunity to give them more info about me besides just GPA and Teas score. Oh well. I guess now it's the waiting game until May. Good luck everyone!

I had warmed up to the interview idea already, I think it could've helped my chances :/ now 3 more months of waiting.

Can anyone tell me where I need to send in my official transcripts? Thanks a bunch.

Hi All

I applied here, CSUEB and Samuel Merritt. Fingers are crossed for SFSU as it's much cheaper than SMU. I interviewed for SMU on Feb 19th. Good luck to all of us!

Overall GPA: about 3.7

Prereq GPA: about 3.7

Teas V Score: 82.7 Advanced (99th percentile in math and science)

Supplemental: 8 years experience as an ED Tech, 1 year ambulance, 4 years trauma experience. (9 Years total EMT)

Hi everyone, I also applied to SFSU BSN for this coming Fall. I got into Samuel Merritt's ABSN program but am not sure where I should attend if I get into SF State. It's a lot cheaper and an easier commute for me to go the SFSU but I' m a little worried about the fact that we won't have a preceptorship (was removed last year). Anybody else worried about that too?

Any APO RN-BSN applicants hear back yet?

On behalf of the School of Nursing, we are sorry to inform you that your application to the Nursing major for academic year 2014-2015 has been denied.

The nursing programs at SF State are extremely competitive and approximately 15% of those who applied to the BSN program were admitted this year. All selected applicants submitted complete, eligible applications and many have a GPA of 3.7 or higher in the prerequisite course work. In addition, their applications were balanced by Exemplary or Advanced TEAS V results and supplemental criteria. We encourage well-qualified, eligible applicants to reapply after working to strengthen their applications.

Although you have been denied admission to the nursing major you may be admitted to the University into an alternate major. A separate notice concerning alternate major status will be sent from the university Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Best wishes as you continue to pursue a nursing degree.

Did anybody else get a denial letter yesterday!? I am so anxious and nervous and wondering if me not getting letter is a good thing!!
