sexual behaviors between married travelers is offensive

Published

I work on a very rural hospital which hires local travelers from surrounding cities to fill their needs.

two of these travelers are a husband (RT) and wife (RN). during shift change he will seek out her location, interrupt our productive by hauling report and show A LOT of display of affection in front of staff (with patient doors open) kissing, touching, feeling and words.

this makes me skin crawl and offends me. you realize people do these and in front of of others because of a sexual prowess to get off on others seeing them.

I want to report this to my manager, but my concern is that I am a traveler.

I’ve already removed myself from the sexual situation and told them both let me give you some privacy.

would you act this way with your spouse at work?

There is a couple that are married on the unit I work on and you would have no idea that they were if you didn’t know them. They usually work the same shifts and keep it professional. Interrupting report is a huge cause for med errors, missing information, etc. sounds like you’d have a case to report it.

Id talk to them first. Don't tell them you will give them privacy, it's the equivalent of saying it's okay. Tell them you'd like the workplace to remain professional and their display of affection shouldn't happen on the floor (or at work in general really). If they don't agree/comply, THEN you report.

Anonymous note....seriously. don't be one of those RN's. Be an adult and just talk to them. And seriously if that bothers you that two people are in love, with all the real sick stuff that goes on with patients, you need to do some soul searching. And you assessment that they do this to show their "sexual prowess" is hilarious.  You have way to much time on your hands. I'm sorry, but with all the murder, rape, molestation and things that go on in the world and that is your concern? I personally think that's great that two people can work together and still have that affection.

From a professional standpoint, no one should see it or hear about it. It's not a judgment issue, it's professionalism. TV shows have people thinking that Drs and nurses are just there hanging out having sex. While it does go on, this kind of behavior out in the public areas doesn't help that perception

I'm not, and I still think that behavior is unprofessional in the work setting.

I'm going to have to agree with the OP. I really don't care that they are "in love". There is a time and a place for everything, and work is not the place to show that much PDA. It shows an immaturity, as well as a lack of professionalism. Take it home and do what you want.
