HI! Hope y'all are doing well! I have a paper to write about folktales and superstitions that women and men have heard about the sex of an unborn child. For instance, if you can balance a pencil on your belly horizontally doesn't that mean it's a girl? Help me out with some of the things that y'all have heard. Have you heard of anything that people do when they want a girl or a boy?
I'd appreciate any superstitions that y'all have heard and think this would be a kind of fun thread to start.
Oh, this is totally unrelated but I've got a new fave quote...
" I'm not offended by those dumb blonde jokes. I know I'm not dumb. I also know I'm not blonde." - Dolly Parton!!! Isn't that hilarious! I also know those boobs aren't real!
Do y'all think they're real?? That's another good conversation starter! Can't wait to hear from y'all!
I've had two children, my first was a girl, my second was a boy.
Its interesting the different myths out there.
Lets see with my daughter I craved peaches and spanish food. I carried her low in my back. I gained exactly 35 lbs with her. My left breast was larger (during and while breast feeding) with both pregnancies. I had no morning sickness with either pregnancy. I had no heart burn or indegestion with either pregnancy. My son I craved Cherries, lots and lots of cherries. I carried him low up front. I gained 40 lbs. I dreamt I'd have a daughter at age 6 (in 1994) with one on the way (boy) when I was pregnant with my daughter. During a time of war. I dreamt she'd have dark hair, and dark eyes. She does and it happened. 9-11 hit when I was three weeks from delivering my son and I had a 6 year old daughter. With my son I had a dream of him coming up out of my stomach and I asked, "Are you a boy?" And this teeny newborn smiled at me. I woke and new even though the tech said I was having a girl I was most definately having a boy.
I did the needle and thread with my daughter, it said girl. My family all said boy. I had a girl.
I did the needle and thread with my son, it said boy. My ultrasound said girl, my family said I was cursed with all girls (like my mother) and I had a boy. Ha ha
I'm on baby number three. I have had a dream of this one also. He will be born with honey brown hair, my hazel green eyes, rosy cheeks. In my dream his name was Sam. He'll grow to be about 6 foot tall, and his hair will change to a dark brown-black. He'll paint for recreation and live in a big city (looked like Pittsburgh). I'm carrying him low and up front. I'm craving lots of sweets and lots of protein. My breasts are the same as my first pregnancy. I have no heart burn and no indegestion. I had no morning sickness. I did the needle and thread and it says boy. My ultra sound is tomorrow. I'll come back and let you know. God bless.
I'm 6 months pregnant now and reading these posts have been a lot of fun. My mom tried the needle trick on me and it came up boy. But I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago and the results came back as it being a girl. I'm not 100% sure about ultrasounds so I haven't gone out and bought all pink things yet.
I crave spicy food and roast beef. Oh, and blueberry muffins. Those darn blueberry muffins have gotten me in trouble since I gained twice the amount I should've this past month and my doctor made me feel awful about it.
With both my daughters, for all the folk tales, oldwives tales, prediction sites, etc..both children should have been boys with heads full of hair.
Both were girls and both as bald as could be.
Same goes for my sister, all the oldwives tales etc predicted boys w/heads of hair. She also had girls as bald as the day is long.
My sister in law for her two girls it was predicted boys and for her boy it was predicted girl.
With so little surprises in this world, I personally waited to find out what the sex of the baby was for when the doctor or nurse said "congradulations Mrs. X you have a healthy ___" With the first one I knew deep in my soul that I was carrying a girl. With the second one, I wasn't as positive as I was with the first, I really thought the second was a boy. Either way I wouldn't trade my girls for the world!
PJMommy said:My grandmother always told me that my terrible heartburn while pregnant meant my baby would have a lot of hair. (?)
I heard this one too ! HOWEVER.........
Horrible heartburn with all my kids.....and
....all were bald:mad:.
The light would reflect off their heads, they were so bald ! :chuckle
Not really on subject, but I have to share...
When my aunt was pregnant she was told she was having a boy. Already having one girl they were thrilled to bring home a little boy, he had a name, Anthony Beavis (hilarious, right??) and a lovely blue nursery. Well, She went into labor and on April 1st, April Fool's Day, she delivered a healthy baby girl... lol!! Talk about a shock!!
The greatest April Fool's joke!! :hehe:

Before I knew I was pregnant, my maternal grandmother took one look at me and said "Are you pregnant?" I said, Not that I know of. I made a Dr. appt. since I had missed one period at that time because when my grandmother had those type of "feelings" the family always paid attention.
Sure enough I was pregnant. When I told her that I was pregnant, she said "I knew you were, and it's going to be a girl." I told her when the approx. due date was, and she told me I was going to have a girl for sure because the baby was going to be born during a full moon. And she was. ?
I've heard about a baby having a full head of hair if the mother has heartburn during pregnancy. All my girls had hair at birth...the last two had more than the first born however.
I carried my first two babies high and round, and my third baby low and round......all girls.
I heard if you hate something or somebody and dwell on it during your pregnancy that your baby will be born to look like or act like whatever you hate.
My mother was afraid of cats, tripped over a cat when six months pregnant with me, and I was born with red hair, slanted grey eyes just like the cat she tripped over. Thank God my eyes turned to brown and as I get older the slants are lowering into position. I've carried the nickname of "Cat" all my life...along a few other nicknames I won't mention.
When pregnant with my oldest daughter, I was afraid of the German Sheperd my ex had at the time. I kid you not, my baby's eyes were like that German Shepards. ? That passed thank God!
I think we hear a lot of things about being pregnant. If any of it comes true, it probably would have been that way anyway. Maybe...maybe not.
