Sex in a LTC...is this ok?

Published

A really close girlfriend of mine who is a new grad works in a LTC Facility on the 11p-7a shift. While doing her rounds she walks in on two residents having sexual intercourse.she didn't stop she simply walked out the room in shock. Was she suppose to say something or is this allowed? There was no record of either of them having a spouse that was in the LTC so we know they weren't married...is this allowed in hospitals? I'm a new grad as well and never heard of this being OK..

Lol... huh? preachers have needs? Preachers, priests, nuns... etc., well --- I just always have thought - they grow their own halos, so they don't have any kind of needs for any kind of sex either!

Or, anyone who's religious -- usually has a built in halo! So, really, their NOT really human. Since sex is only for humans who don't have halos! :D

LOL... how can anyone get turned on in a LTC?? They usually smell like poop, puke, pee or all of the above?? At times, they smell like BAD BREATH... eek! LOL. :D Sometimes, I can't even breathe right when I walk the freakin' hallways! Eww.....

My nursing home doesn't smell like any of the above....maybe for a min or 2 after someone's gone to the BR.

Defiantly give privacy. Although I wish more CNAs would remember this when they walk in on men masturbating. Too many go, "pshhh, they say he was a preacher and he's touching himself!" Hello, men, even preachers, have needs.

Women, too. ;)

Yes, nursing homes residents have the right to have sex, as long as they have a private room with no roommate & it's consensual it is perfectly fine. A person must always knock before entering and if no permission is granted then the person has no business being inside of there.

I would just walk out, and not say a word. I think its great, and will help with emotional, spiritual, and even physical health if the residents have a rewarding sex life. Good for them.

You asked what about the hospital.

The difference is LTC is someones home and they will be there long term. The hospital is generally for short stays (a few days to maybe a couple of weeks). People can usually be expected to refrain and control their desires for that period of time. I guess it would be different if a patient was in the hospital long term or if they were dying in the hospital and not expected to leave.

MY nursing facility does NOT smell. If consenting adults want to have sex, good for them....we have plenty of residents asking for condoms...

I just hope when I'm an old man in the nursing home that I can rise to the occasion if it ever presented itself. I think I would be too embarrassed to go ask the nurse for a viagra or a condom.

All kidding aside, just shut door a leave them be.
