Severe PMS issues

Published

Does anyone else have this happen? This week I have been a weepy, grumpy, depressed mess. I've been considering leaving nursing school, disappearing and doing my own thing. Then I look at a calendar and realize what's due next week. And tada my extreme ups and downs are explained. It makes me feel better to realize why I'm so moody but damn, it sucks. I get really bad ever since I started on nuvaring. Anyone else have this issue?? It's like once a month I hate life and have no desire to be a nurse, and then I'm fine. *sigh*:banghead:

omg this sounds just like me..ITs a little scary that why im scheduling an appointment with my doctor.I dont know what wrong with me..and I need to quit having these thoughts because it puts me behind each month dealing with them...I use to be on orthoevra maybe it has something u do with birth control, but i stopped it like 3-4 months ago, and this is still happening

Wow ! I thought I was the only one. When my pms hits its not a pretty site. I'm verbally and sometime physically abusive to my boyfriend, I cry all the time, crave chocolate, and become depressed. So no you're not the only one.

I've had severe pms for years. If it's really bad its called something like pmdd (premenstual dysphoric disorder). My symptoms last about 2 weeks. Oh, its absolutely terrible. Not only do I have the blues, cravings, exhaustion, but I am also very testy about everything. I can't concentrate, so my nursing exams suffer. I too feel like just walking off and taking a nature vacation alone, with nobody around me. Because I am a student and have 2 children that depend on me, I can't. My doc put me on celexa, but even though I felt better, it a common drug that has some sexual side affects that aren't pleasant. She has now switched me to Wellbutrin due to the low sexual side affects. I'm due early next week and am feeling testy. I know it'll take a few weeks to get into my system. Now that I'm almost 40, I'm also getting hot flashes. My doc tells my this can happen for up to 15 yrs before menapause! Just when you think it really can't get any worse.

If you are up to taking vitamins and herbal supplements, A daily multivitamin along with extra B vitamins and Evening Primrose Oil work wonderfully if you remember to take them every day when you first feel the pms'y feeling. Exercise (just one more thing to do when your already feeling overwhelmed) may also help.

Do you ever wonder how nice it would be to be a man? Pretty even most of the time. For sure no monthly battles like many women experience. Must be nice. In my next life, I want to be male. Better yet, I want to be a one of those bugs that after mating, bites off the head of the male. (Tee Hee, I'm really not a man hater, just have pms this week).

I have been wondering if I should see a doctor too. I 33 now... I have been getting very emotional, short tempered, and its very hard for me to focus on any one thing.

I had been on Zoloft before, but I don't like the sexual side effects either. I have a pretty high drive, and it cuts me down to nothing. So I got off of it. I really don't want to take anything that alters the "good" things about me... you know? Just want something to treat the symptoms of the bad.

Are there any natural meds out there anyone has taken? Just curious...

The only natural supplements that my doc tells me are good are the extra b's and the evening primrose oil. At gnc they have had supplements for pms (they contain mostly b vit), but for me it was cheaper to buy the b supps along with the evening primrose oil capsules. It seemed to work better too. The first time I bought, I bought on the advice from a guy working at gnc (I must have been desperate- hey) and was surprised when they actually took the edge off a bit. My doc agreed that this is what she would have told me to do as well. This is the only supp that I really know of. I bet most liquid vitamin companies have things out too. I'll keep checking here for any other input.

Which B's do you take? B6 or B12? I have a local "vitamine shoppe" here that I go to. My husband takes natural anti-coagulants (instead of coumadin).... and it works for him. I prefer natural stuff anyway... o

I was the exact same way!! PMS was out of control. My dr put me on Prozak for 10 days a month (during the time good ole Aunt Flo was to visit) and it really worked!! So many people have told me it wouldnt because prozak needs about 3 weeks to fully kick in - but if its used for PMS, it just takes the edge off your symptoms. I havent had any negative side effects and I really feel great.

I bought a nature pure brand (I think its a cheapy brand). Its a B complex 100mg. It has extra B1,2,3,5,6, and 12. Evening Primrose oil is also au natural capsule. If you try them, let me know if you get some positive results.

if you truely want some advice on supplements go to neurotalk.psychcentral.com and go to the vitamin forum, post question to "mrsd" she is a retired pharmacist, with a profound interest in nutrition and the effect of meds on same....good luck

If you're taking Evening Primrose Oil, remember that it is high in Omega 6s and you need to take more Omega 3s to balance that out. Don't take my word for it; Google it. I'm glad the EPO is helping some of you!
