I was wondering if your unit does anything fun for Sept 15th National Neonatal Nurses Day! I'm trying to come up with idea of something fun or a theme for a potluck or something of that sort to do for our unit. Would somebody like to help me with some ideas?!

Thanks!

Wow! I've never heard such day! :)

But I agree we should celebrate. Maybe decorate the unit in a more special way- balloons, streamers and distribute flyers to the hospital announcing the the significance of the day. Potluck sounds fun. ;) Maybe I'll tell my colleagues that we should definitely come up with something on that day.

Have fun! :)

Thanks for your help. I hope your unit will also participate in our 'marked' day of the year!

I worked in a Level IV NICU for 30 years; just had to transfer off my job this May to a sedentary position due to health issues. We NEVER celebrated national Neonatal Nurses day. I wish we did something big.

Being around for 30 years, and being an active part of the phenomenal advances in Neonatal Nursing and care of the neonate, has been a blessing for me. It's something that few people have been able to be a part of. I'm happy that I was there the whole time, and would love every neonatal unit in this country to honor their NICU nurses on this special day.

I don't think we get enough recognition for the job we do. It wasn't just a job to me; it was a calling.:redpinkhe:heartbeat

Happy Neonatal Nurses Day to all!! The Neos provided lunch for everyone from a local restaurant that was really yummy. They've done this for at least 4 years, now. We also got small gifts (bookmarks, etc) from unit management. In the past, we've had large banners over the entrances proclaiming the day. It's really nice to feel "special."

Nothing happened here to my knowledge anyway...........I didn't even know we had a day??!! :)

I didn't know about it. Neither did my hospital, I assume, since no mention of it was made by them.
