Sending transcripts from 10 years ago??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have a quick question that hopefully someone can give some insight or advice for...

I originally started college straight out of high school and wasn't really focused :uhoh3: and basically did really bad and even got suspended for poor grades. I then went to another Community College and continued to not take my education seriously. I eventually stopped going in 2002.

I went back to college in 2007 with a focused mind and have done excellent. :D My question is when applying for nursing schools do I need to include my transcripts in the application from my non-studious years?? I am applying to nursing programs at both colleges that I did poorly at in the past, as well as other schools. I don't want to include them because I feel they are from so long ago but I don't want to get disqualified for "withholding info/lying"...please give me some suggestion!!! Can they find out if I don't send them???

Bad idea... It's dishonest, and if they discover that you lied, then you will be disqualified even if you have already started the program. Nursing is about integrity, and if you are going to start out without any, then you should probably look into another field...maybe Car Sales.

Hey! My father was a car salesman!

HAHA, April.. I actually sold cars at two different places..Hondas in Hawaii and Cadillacs in Santa Cruz...lol... I was always encouraged to skirt the truth in many ways in that business... I never bash anyone for earning a living and providing for his family, but it's a very draining business. There's always that line between truth and lies, and I couldn't walk on it anymore...but I'm forever grateful to those businesses for helping me survive while I decided that science was the pathway that I was meant to pursue.

So nothin' but love for the car salesman...especially in this economy...

Okay....WOW...! Thanks for the support fellow nursing student! I didn't think it mattered because NONE of my pre- req classes are on these transcripts from 10 years ago. I'm glad I found out and I will include ALL of my transcripts from here on out. I have about 8 more to send out! I agree integrity is an important quality of a nurse but so is compassion & understanding...maybe you should of stayed in the car sales field.

You want compassion for playing dirty? I go about all my applications honestly and fairly...I've got some very old grades that I'm not proud of, but I include them anyway, because that's the rules. All of us have the same opportunities to go to school, study, and apply with conviction and honesty. Nursing school websites are all very clear about the policy of including ALL transcripts regardless of time. I know it, you know it, and everyone knows it...it's always in bold print. You knew what you were doing was wrong, but you did it anyways.

I have plenty of compassion and understanding, and I help out my fellow applicants whenever I can, but it's hard to have compassion for a cheater. When you are in the hospital, do you want to be treated by the nurse who cheated his or her way into nursing school and took away the space of someone who actually earned it?

You know Beachside Nic I am shocked with your choice of words and your nasty attack. How dare you call me a cheater?? Are you serious?? I got all my PRE-REQ grades FAIR & SQUARE. To insinuate that I am cheating my way into school and defaming my character is very wrong! I personally wouldn't want a nurse with such a REPULSING attitude!

The reason I came to this forum was for advice not to be bashed. I wasn't sure if a few classes from 10- 12 years ago that are not pre-reqs mattered. Thank you for the clarification...you made it very loud and clear.

Before this turns in to an all-out unnecessary online battle, let me just say that I see both sides…because I'm in both positions.

I goofed off my first time in college and if I apply to a school that takes EVERY course in to consideration, I'm pretty much screwed- no matter the fact that I have amazing grades and a pretty freakin stellar TEAS score now. I'd love to omit my previous grades- and the only classes that I'm actually taking from my previous college years are an English class, Intro to Sociology, and Moral Problems (a philosophy/Arts & humanities class). Coincidentally, those were 3 of my higher grades on that transcript. I could take those courses next semester and pretend that I never even went to college back in the day.

However, nursing does come down to integrity… and when it says you have to submit transcripts from all previously attended schools, you gotta do that. This is a very competitive field right now and omitting things, even innocently, isn't fair to the rest of the people in the pool.

You came on here asking a question about submitting transcripts from a while ago because you were genuinely curious… and now you have your answer. Just go ahead and submit them in future applications. Like Oprah says: "When you know better, you do better." Now you know better.

I can totally appreciate this statement and agree with it. Let us all be nice, answer the question, and refrain from posting anything that might be construed as a personal attack or name-calling. Thank you!

Hahaha- I was trying to create an awkward moment. I love those.

For the record, my father is a freakin liar and doesn't care about anyone or what they're doing unless it directly benefits him. So, yeh, car salesman fits him perfectly :) ...not that I'm bitter about it or anything... :lol2:

I was not trying to whomp. I think providing truth is more supportive than encouraging/condoning something that is wrong, especially through misunderstanding. I think my first answer (that schools require all transcripts) was not clear enough to get through the side issues of when, where and how old non-pre-req grades are factored in getting into nursing school. I realize the side issues are a huge deal in our eyes as applicants and therefore can easily overshadow the main issue (do all transcripts need to be submitted to a new school).

I know :) the "whomp, whomp, whooooomp" is a sound effect to accompany your bad news. Life is better with sound effects.

:uhoh3: :uhoh3:Do credits actually expire?? I have a substantial amt..2.5 yrs worth from a Bachelors I never finished that are over 25 yrs old. I messed up my last semester there otherwise my grades were all good. Does anyone know,it was a CUNY school?

Whereslilly

Depends on the courses and the school. Freshman English usually good forever, but anatomy usually only good for five years before you are required to repeat it. For nursing school admission, most schools today have a time limit of three, five, seven, or ten years for the science prerequisite courses.
