Good afternoon, I am hoping to gain some insight from current practicing CRNA's as I have had some difficulty finding reliable information anywhere, including the AANA site.
I have been putting some serious thought into what direction I am going to go in my life/career. Previously, CRNA has always been at or near the top of that list until 2010, at which time I was unfortunately convicted of a Physical Control", which is technically supposed to be a lesser offense than a DUI, but is ultimately a DUI nonetheless.
Nearly 5 years later (as it occurred in January), and without any difficulties sitting for boards (June 2010) or discipline through the BON etc, etc, I am wondering if anyone can share some insight from experience/a friend/etc. how difficult this will make life for me as a CRNA. I am seeking information primarily in regards to National licensing, difficulties obtaining Hospital Privileges, and insurance/insurance compensation difficulties.
As I am in the beginning of things with a previous conviction and not already halfway through a program with a new conviction and kind of stuck en route, I want to make a diligent choice as to what I do next with my career. I do not want to go through everything you all already know I would have to go through, only to have difficulties getting privileges or a position at all as I have heard a couple times that some insurance companies will not pay out providers with a DUI on their background check. (I do not know the specifics, where this occurred, or even if they can only go back 7 years; only hearsay but it certainly would be a nightmare if that happened and all of a sudden I could not be employed as services would not be billable).
About me besides the Physical control: I have been an RN (BSN) since 2010, 3.9 GPA, 2 years MICU, 1 SICU, currently CVICU.
If CRNA is not riddled with hurdles I would love to choose the anesthesia discipline to further my education, just need a little advice or direction as to where I can get a better idea of how things would look for me if I graduating in say 2017/18.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and in advance for any information you have to offer

Moved to Nursing Licensure with Crimunal History for more appropriate answers. Best wishes. I think you will find this is and individual state issue.
Thank you, although it seems no one here has any idea either :/

Hello,
It has been several years since this topic was posted. Do you have any updates regarding to your pursuit for CRNA? I have found myself to be in the same situation as you and was hoping to hear that you have pursued that path despite the many obstacles and hurdles?
