I know you're probably done with this issue by now but I'd like to add my experience here. I travel nursed in Hawaii on the big island in 2017. I made the stupid mistake of going there before I had my license. I can't remember how many weeks it took but I was supposed to start and it was at least three weeks after that start date that I finally had my license. I had a DUI and a few other little misdemeanors in 2006-2008 when I was 18-21. I called their BON every day for three weeks straight getting nowhere. Finally I wrote a letter to the governor telling them what was going on that I was sitting there bleeding out money and I came there to work in a very understaffed hospital but I couldn't without my license. The BON called me the next day and told me they would issue my license and asked if they could close out the complaint to the governor ?

I'm also curious because I'm in the same sitch. Except I got mine when I was almost done with school ?

Hello! I just want to add my story here as I feel it might be helpful. I have 5 misdemeanors the worst of which are DUI #1(2008), DUI #2(2020). I graduated nursing school in 2014 and got my license in my state with no problem. Then while I was in NP school I got that last DUI. I thought my future was ruined. Right away after I was charged I emailed the BON asking them what I could do to decrease the chances of my license being put on probation. They told me to get a drug and alcohol eval from the licensee assistance program in my state and follow the recommended treatment. I did and they did not diagnose me with an alcohol use disorder and ordered me to attend 8 outpatient counseling sessions and a victim impact panel. As I did this I kept pushing my court date back so that I could get as much of this stuff done before I went to court and get into my clinical placement before they charged me so it wouldn't show on my background check. I went to court many months after the initial arrest and the judge was lenient on me because I had already completed the victim impact panel and attended counseling. I even did more than 8 sessions because I liked the sessions and knew it would look good on me. I got 180 days house arrest with NO probation or jail time. To my surprise the board of nursing left my nursing license alone and gave me my NP license UNRESTRICTED! But now I'm looking to move out of state and am wondering which states would be best to look into. From my research it seems like the following are out for now: CA, AZ, LA. Can anyone add any that they think I'll be able to get licensed in or think that I will not be able to? Thanks!!

Do you have an update on this? Were you able to get credentialed? What about malpractice insurance?

I think I found the best lawyer. I'm paying him 1200 bucks which I think is a lot of money and he does a ton of dui cases. It seems like he's willing to fight for me so we'll see but I do not think it will get dropped. I really think I'm screwed and my professional career is over. I'm honestly scared I'm going to lose my job and get kicked out of school. I think I made a mistake by asking the BON and my school chair for advice. Now I'm worried that if I do or don't follow their advice I'm going to be in trouble. I just feel really hopeless at this point.

I'm hoping I can get some advice here. I very disappointed in myself. I got my second DUI very recently but I have not been convicted yet. My first was in 2008, I got my license in 2013 with no problems. I am currently in grad school to become a NP with a projected grad date of Dec 2021. I am living in a compact state (I don't want to disclose at this moment). I am worried that my license is going to be put on probation and I will not be able to practice as a NP because of this and I will definitely not be able to move to other states to practice. At this point I am considering dropping out of school because I don't want to waste my money if I will not be able to practice. Any words of wisdom or advice? Thanks.
