Seeking information on BSN programs in Colorado: Pros/Cons

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hi,

I am new to this space - I am seeking information on BSN Programs in Colorado (Denver/Colorado Springs) and they Pros/Cons to the different schools. I am familiar with CU Health Sciences and Regis, but not as familiar with the smaller colleges (ie. Platte or Concorde). I do not know which programs offer the best education, experience, etc.

I appreciate any advice and insight you may have to offer.

I would love to start in a BSN program sooner than later, I am not sure if most of the colleges have wait-list or interview process for admission into their programs.

Thank you in advance for any comments!

I believe that you use the GPA from your pre reqs, rather than your original undergrad degree. About applying for the traditional program and having to take gen ed classes at Regis, you should call the Nursing admissions councilors at the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions. I know a lot about how the individual programs work and can answer questions about specific classes and clinical rotations. But they are the experts on the semantics of getting into the program. Sorry, I couldn't give you more definite answers and I hope this helped!

How hard is it to get into Regis once you have gotten an interview?

Any tips on interviews at Regis?

When I had my interview there were app. 2 applicants for every 1 spot. Which program are you applying to (traditional, accelerated, choice)?

Hey One1,

I just got an interview to Regis and I see that you also interviewed there or are you a current student? Could you tell me more about the interview I am so nervious, I applied to the accelerated program and would love to chat with you if you're willing!

So I graduated from the Regis traditional program with a BSN and did my pre-nursing credits at University of Northern Colorado. If you want to go for the best of the best they are as follows 1. CU Boulder 2. Regis University 3. University of Northern Colorado. These rankings come from student reputations at Colorado hospitals and NCLEX pass rates. All three programs are also ridiculously hard to get into. So either way, good luck and if you have any questions about Regis, I was an affiliate faculty member so ask away.

Cheers :)

Just one correction - there is no nursing program at CU Boulder, it is at the Health Sciences Center in Aurora (on the same campus as University Hospital and TCH).

I believe you meant to say CU Denver, as the Boulder campus has no nursing program.

No, I did mean CU Boulder. Most nursing students do all there prereqs through CU Boulder and they also apply for the clinical portion of the program at CU Boulder. One of my good friend is a microbiology grad student and was always complaining about the nursing students in her labs. Another of my friends applied to both CU Boulder and Regis for nursing and made it into CU. Most of the clinical classes are held at Fitzimmons Medical Campus but the base program still runs out of Boulder.

Not that it really matters, but the nursing program at CU is actually tied to the Denver campus, not the Boulder campus. I am currently finishing up my first semester with the UCD (University of Colorado-Denver) program and I am very happy with it!

I would love to see the "rankings come from student reputations at Colorado hospitals". Please let me know where I can find that information.

Having worked with RN's and students from various programs I would agree that UNC, Regis, and CU are very good programs, but I wouldn't say they are the "best of the best". I have been impressed as well by students from Metro State, UCCS, DSON, and CSU-Pueblo.

I don't believe NCLEX pass rates are always the best indicator as a smaller program's rate can look significantly worse by just another one or two students failing. But since you brought it up....CSU-Pueblo and Metro State are both ahead of Regis and CU so far this year.

Hi One1,

I see that you are currently in the Regis ABSN program and have kids. I was accepted to the program also and will begin in January, 2011. I have 2 kids (8 and 4) and wondered how you are doing with being so busy. I know I can do this accelerated program, but sometimes I get a little nervous. What does a typical week look like at Regis? I appreciate your time...I know you are busy. If you can't respond, I understand...
