CU Denver (UCD)vs. Regis University advice
Hi Aubrey, I am currently in the Regis Accelerated BSN program and graduate in December. I was also accepted to CU Denver but ended up choosing Regis. I agree with REN324's reply and the Regis program is set up similarly albeit, at a much faster pace for the accelerated program. I personally do not have a healthcare background, but I did volunteer in a hospital for a short time. I do think volunteering helped me get accepted to both programs, so if you have a few hours a week, I'd encourage you to volunteer. It's actually pretty fun! As far as which is the "better" school? It's probably a toss up. They are both great schools and where one school inches above in one area, the other school inches above in another. For me, I preferred the smaller class size, the environment, and the less competitiveness of Regis. You'll definitely earn a top notch nursing education at Regis...and also at CU. -Ally1833

Seeking information on BSN programs in Colorado: Pros/Cons
Hi Carlyd. First, congrats on being accepted to Regis! It is a great nursing school and you'll learn alot. Second, having a young child during this program does make things a little tougher, but by no means impossible. To me, the first 4 months were the most time consuming because the program is front loaded. I think they sort of do this to "weed" people out that struggle with the workload. After that, the summer semester is a little easier, and I am just now starting the fall. So to answer your question, yes you can do this! You will learn how to take advantage of every precious minute of the day to attend classes, do the assignments, study, and be with your family. You will become an expert multi-tasker :). Cooking and cleaning can wait...seriously. I'm a neat freak and this was hard for me. Sometimes I had to let stuff go for a while. But I believe this accelerated nursing program is a fantastic opportunity to be made the most of. It's only for 1 year...I can't believe I'll graduate in almost 3 months and I remember just starting the program! You can do it! Commitment, dedication, hard work. It all pays off. Good luck! :)

CU versus Regis (accelerated programs)
Hi, I, too, have been blessed with being accepted to both Regis' and CU's accelerated programs and also have 2 younger kids, ages 8 and 4. I already accepted Regis and was recently offered a spot at CU so now I have to make a decision. I was thinking CU, being 6 months longer, might be a tad less stressful/time consuming and be easier on my family. Summit, you mentioned Regis' program will keep one busy 6-7 days a week. That scares me a little since I do have 2 kids. Are you in the program? Would you be so kind as to share a little about your experiences? Also, do you know how intense CU's accelerated program is? Thanks :) -Ally1833

Seeking information on BSN programs in Colorado: Pros/Cons
Hi One1, I see that you are currently in the Regis ABSN program and have kids. I was accepted to the program also and will begin in January, 2011. I have 2 kids (8 and 4) and wondered how you are doing with being so busy. I know I can do this accelerated program, but sometimes I get a little nervous. What does a typical week look like at Regis? I appreciate your time...I know you are busy. If you can't respond, I understand...

anyone applying to CU for 2010?
Work in Progress, I really appreciate your thoroughness in your responses and it all makes sense. I find it a very interesting dynamic between the nursing shortage and the downturned economy which initially were unrelated and now how the 2 issues have intertwined into our current situation. It's good to know that nursing is a career that many people can come back to at really any point in their lives. Best of luck to you and thank you again for sharing your insights.

anyone applying to CU for 2010?
Work in Progress...thank you sooooo much. You are very kind to give so much helpful advice. I guess the only other concern I have is that I thought there was a huge demand for RN's? My mom is a nurse at the VA and says they have to hire temps and travelling nurses because of the nurse demand. Also many baby boomer nurses are retiring nowadays. But, do you know why new grads are having some difficulty getting hired? I have heard this from other people too, but I don't understand why? Why would hospitals bring in temps or travelling nurses that are sooo much more exensive vs. hire a new grad? Is it because hospitals are so overwhelmed that they can't take the time to train a new grad? On the other side of the coin, I have heard of the theory that the current economy is forcing some unhealthy individuals to not seek medical attention because they can't pay, so there is a perceived decrease in the need of nurses right now...This is such a crazy time right now...

anyone applying to CU for 2010?
Hi everyone. I received a rejection letter/rollover letter from CU and I am currently looking to boost my experience in the hopes that I may get in next year. I have good grades (4.0 prereqs; 3.77 GPA on my previous Bachelors) but had no experience in health care whatsoever. I just got a volunteer job at hospital so I am excited about that. But does anyone think that earning a CNA certificate would help? I read an earlier post on here that graduating nurses from CU are finding RN jobs easier if they have CNA or EMT experience. Does anyone have any knowledge/opinions on this? Thanks in advance...

anyone applying to CU for 2010?
I received the small envelope today... For those of us who didn't get accepted....did your letters state that they would rollover your application to the Spring 2011 start or was it a flat rejection letter? I need to initial my letter and send it back if I want to be considered for the Spring and they'll let me know by August. So I guess there is still hope. I've been accepted to DSN for July but I think I still want to see if I can get in to CU or maybe even Metro or Regis. I feel sad for those of us who didn't get in. I was so hopeful but I guess the competition was beyond what I anticipated. Congrats to all of you made it!!!

anyone applying to CU for 2010?
I just received a phone call from Cookie Gowdy and she said they are still putting decision letters in the mail and she was sorry they are so behind schedule, but they have had so many applicants. She couldn't give me any information over the phone as to whether I am accepted or rejected, but said I should be receiving a letter in the next couple of days. She also said that if I didn't receive a letter by April 6 (Tuesday) to give them a call. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

Thanks Sand Dollar. :) Delish5...I also emailed and phoned Cookie Gowdy and Sue Bells (my Admissions Manager) yesterday afternoon. No response as of yet. They are so busy right now I don't know if I'll hear back anytime soon but as soon as I do I'll let everyone know what they say. But you have a good point that maybe they sent a 2nd batch of mail out and we'll get it today! I'm trying to stay positive.

anyone applying to CU for 2010?
Hi Everyone...I have been following these threads for several months but just joined today because I, too, have not received any notification in the mail. I live in Castle Rock and thought my grades might be good enough to get in, but I think it is strange that out of state applicants have already received their letters and several of us "locals" haven't. My previous BSBN degree GPA was 3.77 and my prereqs were 4.0. Do you think that if we haven't heard by now, we are not going to get an acceptance letter? I don't know what to think at this point...
