Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

If you meet the cut-off for UofT does it mean that you get in? I thought that UofT looks at applications for experience, grades and also prefers degree holders.

Just got into Humber-UNB. A new wait-list was created with the Winter 2014 grades submitted and now they are calling people individually as spots open up. If anyone is waiting on Humber-UNB, June 25th is when we have to pay the $500 tuition fee deposit. So usually they have people drop out on or before that date as well.

Congrats for your acceptance to Humber! I'm still on the waitlist, but I was wondering when you got your acceptance call because I don't want to miss it just in case I get in or anything like that.

thanks! I got the call around 10-11am. They would call on the phone # that you gave through ontario colleges when applying. You could even call the nursing department and ask them where you stand on the wait-list, I did that.

Today I got a conditional acceptance from Nipissing SPP 2nd Entry. Waiting to find out what are the conditions of the offer. I most likely will decide to go there since it's 2 years vs. Humber that has a prep semester. So that will be another Humber spot opening up. Good Luck!

Talstar, congratulations on all your acceptances! I am very happy for you. I am quite interested in the Nipissing SSP program. Can you provide me with more details regarding the admission requirements? If you don't mind me asking, what was your gpa to get in?

You should go to their website, that's what I did or email the department to get all the specific requirements for the program. I had an 82% on 10 FCEs

I just went on the website and read that they take your best 20 half courses or 10FCEs. Does that mean they take your 20 highest grades from 1st-4th year for the calculation?

Is anyone still waiting to hear from any schools or "patiently" waiting on any wait lists?

I received an acceptance today from U of T

, I had a sessional gpa of 3.6 and extensive volunteering and community involvement.

Good luck to everyone.

Nursinator11 congrats. Have you already finished your BA?

Congrats!!!!! That is amazing news. Were you on the wait list or did you just receive an offer?

lalalene, are you on the wait list for UfT?

I am not on the wait list at UofT. I haven't heard anything from them. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing.

I am on the wait list for western but I have no idea what my chances are of going from the wait list at western to an offer of admission.

Has anyone received an offer from Western after going on the wait list? If so, what was your average. Please help!!

What about you, have you heard from UofT? Are you on a wait list?
