Hi all I am Charniece and I am a pre Nursing student at GRCC. I've come on here to really meet and greet with fellow nursing students, graduate students, and seasoned nurses. I would like to pick up some valuable tips and strategies to navigate through nursing school. A little back history is I was an A's and B's student in high but lost my way Senior year. Needless to say it impacted my college career significantly initially. Thankfully at the ripe age of 25 I have managed to get it together while pursuing my dream to be a nurse. So far of what I have experienced of the Nursing world is pretty cut throat to be honest. I know and understand nursing is serious and therefore requires every inch of your being. Which I respect so much. Which is why I love it so. But I have to admit although I am doing much better I have little support from most nurses I come into contact with. And they seem to be down right stuck up. Not really sure what that is about. I have admit it kind of put a damper on my fire I had to succeed however I'm too bull headed to give up easily. But either way that is a little about me. Suggestions are greatly appreciated thanks for reading.

Are you close to completing your prereq? I completed all my prereqs for the RN program but had to stop going to school due to personal issues. I took a couple years off from school and decided to apply to a practical nursing program which I'll be done in 3.5 months Lord willing. My dream is to become an RN. I just decided to get my LPN license and bridge into the RN program. To me it doesn't matter what detour I take to achieve my goal as long as i get there.
Yes I am. I currently only have three more courses. And I am also going the LPN route to shorten the time of the wait list at GRCC. Good luck to you on your journey.

Are you at GRCC? I go there & graduate Nov. 21st. from the LPN program! Did you have any specific questions? At GRCC they mean business. They are not about them games. GRCC requires an 80% in order to pass a class with no rounding, higher than any other school in the Grand Rapids area. It has been mentioned to me many times that GRCC nurses know their stuff and this is true! Which is why employers often hire us before we even taking our NCLEX. You will spend hours upon hours studying but it is very doable. The very best advice that I can give about the program is talk with people who attended the program in the cohort before yours and pick their brain regarding the teacher that you have. Former students that have been successful can provide a wealth of information regarding how to study, what to study for and what resources you need. Also make friends with people in your cohort. Those friends that you make will help pull you through because it's not easy but once you finish you will have the very best feeling of accomplishment. You will fully understand why Nurses are protective of their name and the profession.

PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR PHOTO as an avatar on this or any "anonymous" social media site. It can have serious repercussions in general, but for nurses - or wanna-be nurses, it can have disastrous consequences if you happen to post the wrong thing or something that is interpreted badly. It has resulted in dismissal from nursing school & loss of professional license.
Yes I am currently at GRCC :) After my meeting with the ND of CC she told me I should be starting my LPN class around Fall 2017. Which is perfect with the time frame I wanted to complete my ADN. So I am beyond ready and excited. I also have a opportunity to work through the children's hospital to aide in my aspiration to become a NICU nurse. The ND told me what to expect with the LPN and RN program there but I am totally open to ANY advice concerning navigating through either program. Greatly would appreciate it! And congrats to you completed your LPN. You go girl :) I am working on building both study and friend relationships with my fellow perspective nursing classmates and also established nurses.
Ohhh thank you so much for reminding me of this. I certainly don't want any miscommunication concerning my viewpoints or experiences. So again I thank you.
She said 2017 for the Lpn and then you'll have to get back on the waiting list for the RN program? That's a long time. I guess that's about right I waited 1 1/2 years for the LPN. I hope to be back in the RN program in Aug. 15 or Jan. 2016 with God's will. If you have any questions just let me know.
Well you also have to keep in mind I am applying to the LPN program in December. I am waiting till at the end of the semester due to a last prereq for the LPN program. But she assured me that I most likely won't wait that long. She guessed prob around 12-16 month wait. Which is fine because I will be completely down with my prereqs for the ADN. So it works out perfect for me. I think honestly you will only wait for about 12-14 months. They are trying move people through the program asap. When you got your letter for your ready date for the LPN program, how long was it before your first day of class?
It was about May or June of 2013. I got on the list in June of 2012. I started Jan. of 2014. Some people in my cohort got into the program in less then a year. One guy got in, in like 6 mos. Sometimes, if a lot of people don't accept their position in the class they call the other people on the list early.
I never heard of prereq for LPN program? I live in pittsburgh, pa and there is no waiting list for the LPN PROGRAM.
This is at a community college. You have to take 5 pre-reqs but they count towards your RN should you choose to continue on. The classes are sociology, psychology, English 101, human anatomy & physiology and microbiology.
