Substantially Equivalent Competence (SEC) Assessments
Objective Structured Clinical Exams, (Assessing a client), Clinical judgments (scenarios asked by the assessor), a Triple Jump (Case study) and 2 x 3.5 hour written exams consisting of short answer and multiple choice.
The assessment is used to evaluate a person's skills and critical thinking when the documentation regarding their nursing education doesn't supply adequate information as to their preparation compared to that of Canadian-educated nurses. Since only a small amount of learning in nursing actually takes place in school there's a strong possibility that an individual is far more competent in fact than they are on paper. This assessment reveals that.
Finished with my practical test this morning
I did terrible. I was unprepared, it was just really basic really, but i still didn't have the presence of mind to do what was being asked. groan. i know now where I stand even if I don't wait for the results.
written exam tomorrow! wish me luck!
I don't know that you can really "study" for SEC. It's assessing so much more than clinical knowledge... critical thinking and planning are also very important aspects of nursing care in Canada. Have you read FAQ - Substantially Equivalent Competence (SEC) Assessments ?
