UGH:banghead:

Specializes in Acute Care Cardiac, Education, Prof Practice.

The name just sounds like...a joke lol. Like something bizarre from the Princess Bride (aka RUS's. Rodents of Unusual Size).

Anyway, would it help to think of the answers as though you were explaining to the patient how, why and rationale for the steps in the process?

That was how I worked my way through my NCLEX, but I have never heard of this test so I am not sure if the same applies here.

hi imdijit

that is soooo good to know!! :yeah:i still haven't scheduled my SEC assessment. Im still thinking if i have to delay it a little to prepare for it.

start preparing now, on what area are you required to do the SEC though?

get a CRNE reviewer as well, run through the "small answer questions", that's the only thing different from our board exam back home and Nclex.

knowledge of a basic nursing skills is very helpful. like physical assessment, drug administration.

did they include in your letter from crnbc, inviting you to participate in a research at Kwantlen? If so, take advantage of that! my biggest mistake was not joining the research, those people I met during the day of my SEC assessment, said it was really helpful.

anyways, you have FB? or FS? so If you need any further info, I can be easily reached there, I don't usually check here.

hi imdijit

they want me to take the assessment just for the gen med surg area. and yes i'm trying to start reading and reviewing right now. I've started with the fundamentals like what youve said: physical assessment, drug calculations etc.

I have FS. Can I get your email so i could add you there? :)

Hi everyone! I am an Internationally Educated Nurse from the Philippines and currently residing in Alberta.

I checked my online profile today and found out that "Preliminary Assessment was cleared" on February 25, 2011?

I just want to know how long does it take to receive a referral letter from CARNA for SEC assessment?

Any ideaS?

Thank you very much!:nurse:

Wish of luck on your SEC assessment. Prayers and visualization. You can make it! ;)

Just felt the need to post this for all concerned, oh well when I was starting here in Canada not so long ago (being an immigrant), I was required to undergo the SEC assessment, and believe me when I say right after the assessment, I have so much respect for it. :redpinkhe

Don't fear it or hate it, it is actually in place to protect the public and help YOU. :)

Good luck everyone.

Hi everyone!

I will take my SEC on Monday. I hope I'll make it...

Good luck Berryasian12!

I'm scheduled to take the SEC a month from now. If I may ask, how long did you prepare for SEC? I know they say here that there is no need to study for SEC because it is only basic nursing skills that are tested. On the contrary, we have a 7-hour multiple choice and short answer question exam similar to the CRNE, so we do have to study hard for it. What did you find useful for your review?

:)Hello!

I studied the CRNE prep guide, Lippincot CRNE prep Guide, Maternal and child. I just did a short frequent reading coz' sometimes Im so busy for work. Where are you from by the way? ;) I will give you some tips once Im done.

Im not that prepared but I'll just do my best! My anxiety level is so high...:coollook: I wish everything will go well.
