Seattle University Fall 2022

Published

Hi everyone! It might seem early, but I wanted to start a forum for SU's 2022 BSN applicants ?

I'll be applying as a transfer and still need to finish my pre-calculus course to satisfy the prerequisites. I have a 3.76 GPA for my transfer degree, and almost 5,000 hours of hospital work as a CNA. I am a little bit nervous because I repeated some classes due to classes expiring and need to find some volunteer experience (I have none).

I'm interested in other's pre-nursing experiences and the schools they plan to apply to. Feel free to share about yourself during this stressful yet exciting time!

I got off the waitlist. SU offered me a spot, I’m starting this Fall22. Is there a fb group for this cohort?

Congratulations!

If there isn't, my cohort (BSN Transfer 23') made a FB and Discord and sent it out via the SU outlook email. You have access to all your classmates emails (If they've given you email access yet). In the coming weeks, you will all have opportunity for facilitated meeting through welcome week and such. Also, you can sign up for the mentor program and have someone from my cohort help with questions and such. In the meantime, If anyone has any question, reach out to me and I can send out my SU email!

Advice I was told and want to reinforce; don't be scared ((: ! You've made it in!! The hardest part is over and nursing school isn't as scary as it can be portrayed. SU is amazing and so supportive.

My Recommended Supplies You'll Need Before School Starts:

- Stethoscope (Littman is the brand majority of us have - They will give you a BP cuff and other assessment supplies at Health Assessments)

- Laptop / Tablet (If you are having trouble accessing this tech supply, they have programs where you can borrow tech)

- SU Scrub Top & any navy blue scrub bottoms

- Badge Clip

Book Info:

You don't need to buy all the books if you don't want to. A lot of the times, you'll get PDF versions in emails or just through your cohort. I wasted a lot of money my first quarter on books xD. All up to your preferences. Below are books I've used the most and recommend:

- Davis Drug Guide (I purchased the one though the Iphone Appstore. I like it because I can access it on my phone & laptop - I've pulled it up in class, while studying, and at clinicals.. Also there's so many drugs so It helps you can type out the drug vs flipping around in a book) - https://www.drugguide.com/

- Bates Pocket Guide was useful for quick and easy information to help with assessments

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any advice. I am working on my associates of science (will be completed in March 2023) My sciences grades range from 2.0 - 2.3 this is due to dealing with a lot of family emergencies, death & depression. But my other grades are 3.0 & above. I know one can only retake two courses max (which I've already done). I emailed a transfer advisor from SU about my situation & I just waiting for a response. I know Shoreline has an ADN program but to even be considered I would have to retake 4 science courses & I not sure how that would work considering I am almost done with my associates, plus more than two retakes eliminates you from university acceptance. So it's like I have to pick one or the other, but my heart is set on SU. I am in dire need of help. Does anyone know of a student who was accepted with a low GPA but great essay?

Thank you.

Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. It would be best to contact the transfer advisor in Seattle U. You can send them an email for any questions. They are very nice and helpful.

I met with a transfer advisor;  I will be honest she was not very helpful. So now I am lost.

Hey there AspiringNurse9601

My advice for you would be to retake courses that are more importantly looked at like your sciences AP Bio or Chem classes. I also want you to know that when applying to universities they give you the opportunity to write an optional essay to explain yourself on why you might have performed not as well during certain quarters compared to others/ why you had to retake courses. I would use that essay to explain your situation to them in the most concise clear way. Another option would to apply to as many universities/ colleges you can. Also focus not only on your current classes but your volunteer hours, universities like to see when students are actively participating in their local communities. Most importantly is to take everything one step at a time, don’t let things stress you out to much and always value your mental/physical health first! Good luck ?

Hello,

I am currently prepping for Seattle University Nursing interview for the 2023 cohort. Do you have any tips or advice on what to expect? I'm extremely nervous and have never done a nursing interview so I'm not sure what to expect.

Congratulations! I would say be yourself! Review the essay you submitted for application. Look up SU's website particularly the College of Nursing. I believe there are YouTube videos about the nursing program too. Unpack your strengths and traits that aligns the mission and vision of the school. Also it is important to know your weaknesses and how did you overcome and learn from it. How do you cope up with stress? Why SU? Why nursing? SU loves diversity. Make sure say something about it and EQUITY.  They are very nice! My interview was via zoom and we started off with.. getting to know kind of conversation to break the ice and I guess to feel more comfortable. If you are struggling to answer a question, look up videos how to respond to a hard question. Be prepared. Be confident. You got this!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the advice. Do you remember any of the hard questions they ask? I seen through YouTube videos how schools sometimes ask you situation based questions. Those are the ones that I am unsure about because different videos give different advices on how to answer those kind of questions.

Hello,

I got accepted for Fall 2023 and was wondering if anyone who was accepted has been working while attending the BSN program and if so how many hours? How difficult has it been balancing work/school/personal life? Is it doable?
