Seattle University BSN Fall 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi, guys. I've been looking for a forum for Seattle Uni BSN Program but there's none so I decided to make one. I'm applying for transfer/second degree program. I already have my B.A in psychology. Feel free to share anything. How's everyone's stats?

I had my interview yesterday. I would say just be prepared to answer typical interview style questions. There were no major curve balls that threw me off. If you have interviewed for any job before, it is the same style of questions.

Thanks for sharing! What advice would you give? I honestly don’t have much interview experience in general.

Hi everyone! Like @RubyDS, I am also a current Junior transfer student at SU who relied heavily on an allnurses thread to help me get through the application/interview process. The one question I got asked that took a moment for me to compile an answer to was when they asked me to describe a situation where I had to deal with a difficult patient or family member, how I handled it, and what the outcome was. They knew from my resume that I had healthcare experience, so if you put that you have healthcare experience on your resume, definitely be prepared to answer a question like that! As for a question I asked them, I was blunt and open about telling them that I had also applied to UW, and asked why their school would be a better choice for me (after explaining what I would need from them for support as a school because they also asked me about that). My interviewers seemed to like that question and one of them was a previous professor at UW SON and was able to give me a very detailed, insightful answer. All the professors and faculty are great and just really want to get to know who you are, so just answer openly and honestly! There was even a situation in my interview where I started to tear up because we were talking about my grandma who had just passed at the time. Good luck to everyone! I can honestly say my experiences at SU CON have been nothing but great and it’s a great school to go to. If you all have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This was really helpful. Also, so sorry to hear about your grandmother.
I am curious if you had any information about how many transfers they accept? And do you know if all qualified applicants get invited for an interview?
I also don’t have very much healthcare experience like others. I only have some volunteer hours in an ER. Do you think this makes me a less strong candidate? I did read in other threads that they look at applicants holistically, but just trying to get a better idea of what they are looking for.
If you could remember anything else they asked you that would also be great! Thanks again!!

No problem! They typically accept 80 people for the cohort, maybe a few more since they know some people will choose other schools to go to. When I interviewed last year, my interviewers told me that they had selected around 175 to interview. They do seem to look at the application holistically and there are definitely some people in my cohort with very little or no healthcare experience. Of course they like to see healthcare experience, but it doesn’t mean you won’t get selected! They really do try to look at everything. Hope this helps!

@kingleo adding on to this because I had only 110 hours of shadowing a nurse, and no other healthcare experience, and I also didn’t have a CNA license. I do have years of unrelated work experience, and in my interview I was able to explain why I thought the skills I learned there would relate to nursing, and I think that helped!

hey @Cashlee

just wanted to thank you for offering advice to this year's applicants. It's kind of crazy cause I have been reading past SU threads, and I actually remember stumbling across your messages and posts. Congratulations on being accepted and I hope you're enjoying the program!

Hey everyone! I had my interview today and I think it went pretty well, although the questions were really vague and didn’t ask about why I want to be a nurse or why SU.

I think tomorrow is the last day of interviews and I know it’s way early, but does anyone know what all the past years threads are talking about when they say they are checking their application status online???

I asked and they said to count about 3 weeks from Friday.

Thanks! That’s online? I tried to login to view my application but couldn’t find the right link I guess.

If you’re talking about the application status portal, you can find it in the e-mail that you received right when sending in your application. There’s a link in it where it will have you login and everything if you still have that e-mail!
