Seattle University BSN applicants 2012

Published

Hi all,

I didn't see any threads for Seattle University, so I thought I would start one. What classes are you taking, current GPA, extracurriculars, etc? Any thoughts on the application process?

I guess I will start by saying that I am currently finishing 2 prerequisites. Currently my overall GPA is 3.3 and pre-req GPA is a 3.9. I'm starting a CNA program, so hopefully that goes well. My overall GPA is low, so I am worried about that.

I am SO nervous just thinking about it!!

I am considering applying there too. What is your overall GPA. It cannot be as bad as mine. I have retaken Chemistry numerous times and I'm not sure that would look too good on an application :/

Hello, I am a graduate from Seattle U's nursing program. Which is an amazing nursing school, I loved everything about my experience as a SU nursing student. I transferred from a local community college with a GPA of 3.4 with several classes repeated (Chemistry and Math). I received my associate of arts and worked as a CNA for about six mouths before I applied to SU. I used UW nursing requirements as a baseline because they asked for more classes as prerequisites then an other university. Both of you should apply and apply to all the nursing programs around the area. Getting my foot in the door was the hardest part. Hope this helps and good luck to both of you.

Hi Leka,RN thanks for the encouragement, I will definitely be applying to SU. I am really nervous, and have been calling admissions about all sorts of random questions! When did you graduate SU? I have heard many good things about the program, I especially love that their student:teacher is excellent. -Tracy

Hello Tracy,

I graduated this past June and was offered a position this week for a RN residency! I remember being where you are and I too was a nervous wreck. How many programs are you applying to?

I feel the essays are extremely important in the application process. You have to stand out from the rest of them. I wrote about my own weakness and showed how I am determined and dedicated to becoming a nurse even with them. I explained why it took me so long to get my AA (3 years) and why I repeated so many classes. What is the essay questions now, I wonder if they are the same when I applied? I think they asked why nursing/SU and something about diversity.

Seattle U's Nursing College has been really good to me especially the professors and clinical instructors. I loved being on "Pill Hill", most of my clinical sites were close to campus. I could go on and on why SU is the best in my eyes. Nursing school definitely beats you up, there will be tears, however having the support of so many amazing nurses was well worth it.

I hope this eases your mind a little and if you have any questions let me know.

Hi LekaRN, I PM you, not sure if the message got through because I haven't posted 15+ times on this board yet. Let me know if it didn't, thanks so much.

Hello Tracy,

I am not sure if my reply PM was sent to you, let me know if you didn't receive it.

Just saw this thread, wanted to see who all applied to Seattle University this year! I finally heard that my application has all been processed and all transcripts were received. Now the waiting game!

Hi armynurse68, how long did it take you for everything to be processed? My application status online hasn't changed yet, and still says Your application has been received and is currently being processed. A determination if all documents have been received will be forthcoming shortly. Did you apply to any other schools?

It just changed to "application completed" on Tuesday, Jan. 17. I also called to make sure all my transcripts were received by Jan. 5 since that was the deadline. I would call just to make sure, they're really nice and helpful. I have applied at UW, SPU, SU, PLU, WSU, and WWU. I wanted to apply to a few out of state schools but the applications are so time consuming! If I don't get into any this year, I apply to more next year. What about you?

I think I will do that next week, since they're all closed down right now. I completely agree, applications have been the only thing I've been doing for the last month and I have only applied to two schools! I should have applied to more, but it has been really hard being in school. Im not sure how I'm going to last 2 more months of waiting, I'm already going crazy. :) are you from Seattle??

Seattle, Born and raised! You?

I kinda neglected my classes this quarter in order to finish my applications. Thankfully, its my last quarter before I earn my AAS and I'm just finishing up humanities and social sciences, so not a hard schedule. How do you feel about your applications? I have a really strong gpa and lots of experience, but sometimes I feel like that is not enough.
