Seattle University APNI 2019 Applicant Questions?

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hi All,

I remember when I was applying to Seattle U's APNI (Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion) program a couple of years ago there was no information for me out there! So I wanted to circle back and answer any questions applicants or potential applicants might have. I finished the APNI portion last spring and now am in the first year of the primary care FNP/AGNP track.

Good luck to all.

Hi Isun! The second year of the program has no clinical so students can work on top of school. Not many work inpatient because of mandatory orientations, residencies, etc. so a lot of folks work at outpatient, residential, and other places in similar settings. People work different hours dependent on what they prefer. Most work part-time, some work per diem, some work full-time. I was looking at the psych track plan of study and it looks like two quarters in year three also do not have clinical so I’m hoping to work during those quarters as well. Ultimately, the program is not designed to take time off to work but to work on top of school.

Hi, sorry for the delay. I am in the first year of the FNP program and work roughly 20 hours a week. Most people work in some capacity as an RN.

Specializes in Biology Grad.

Hey everyone,

I am currently in the process of reapplying to the APNI program ; I applied two yrs ago and unfortunately did not get accepted. I have since retaken two classes to increase my grade ( I had a 2.8 in AP1) and it was over 5 yrs since I took microbiology. I have gone to information sessions numerous times but I am wondering if someone has some detailed advice on how to write/ perfect the letter or intent ? I provided a story in my letter but I am not much of a tooter of my own horn so I am wondering if it did not come across strong enough with my story.

Any pointers, suggestions would be much appreciated as I am not sure what to change.

Thank you

Hello APNI 2019 applicants! I just received my interview invite for the psych track as a 2020 applicant. I am hoping for some advice on the interview itself, mainly the writing sample, but also any information that pops into your heads would be really appreciated.

Thank you all!

Rachel-

The biggest thing I can say is to be confident that you are qualified while you are interviewing. I had Dr. DeSocio and another interviewer. They made it very comfortable and most of my nerves fell away when the interview started. I've heard that the FNP interviews can be a bit more rigorous and uncomfortable.

They want to see that you have experience that separates you from other applicants and makes you a solid PMHNP candidate. Think abstract- you don't necessarily have to have experience in a psych hospital or anything. Be confident in yourself! Take a look at the school mission and values and maybe hit on working with underserved populations. As far as the writing sample- just figure out a concise way to show that you're life experience and work background set you apart from other applicants. Unless the prompt has changed in the last year that is!

Hello,

I am in the program, and have participated in interviews of the newer cohorts. I would say focus on your record of service. They were really looking for people who are passionate about helping others.

Hope that helps.

Thank you both for the advice, very helpful ?

Hi there! Could you clarify what you mean by "writing sample?" I got an interview for CNM 2020, but I haven't heard about this writing sample... Thanks! :)))) And best of luck to you!

Hi, yes. I remember reading that during the interview process you are asked to provide a writing sample on the spot...

Is this correct 2019 applicants?

Best of luck to you as well!

I didn't have to for the PMHNP interview. It couldn't hurt to ask though.

Is there any advice or insight that anyone might want to share from their experience or how to prepare for the FNP interview?

@rachel.leone I also saw something about a writing sample may be taken
