Seattle University APNI 2019 Applicant Questions?

Hi All,

I remember when I was applying to Seattle U's APNI (Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion) program a couple of years ago there was no information for me out there! So I wanted to circle back and answer any questions applicants or potential applicants might have. I finished the APNI portion last spring and now am in the first year of the primary care FNP/AGNP track.

Good luck to all.

@Kaiser

Yes, I am going to reach out to Oz and see if this is something I need to prepare for.

I can let you know what she says!

Good luck to you!

@Kaiser

Oz stated that we do not need to prepare for a writing sample during the interview! :)

Hi everyone!

2020 APNI-DNP, FNP track applicant here. I was just wondering if any of you, old and new applicants alike, have any sort of idea on what their 'fluid' application process looks like? I spoke with an adviser today who was incredibly kind and very empathetic but didn't entirely know the answer.

Essentially, I'm wondering: I know interview invites vary by track. However, within each track, are invites sent out in order of priority/competition? Ex: If 25 FNP spots are available, will the 25 most competitive applicants be identified and offered interviews, and then further interviews to other applicants will be offered dependent on how the first round goes?

OR

Are all applications reviewed and interview invites are simply scheduled to be sent out at different times?

Honestly I'm just trying to better gauge my level of competitiveness (or non-competitiveness) for this program, because while Seattle U is my top pick, other universities do pressure for enrollment w/deposits so I feel conflicted and limited in how long I can hold out to see if I'll get an interview.

Thank you very much in advance. I know many of us are in the same boat, so to everyone feeling the same way--hang in there!

I don't want to say with complete certainty but I think it's a mixture of things. I feel like they tend to schedule interviews for the applicants that jump off the page right away. After that things get kind of spread out. It also probably depends on track.

That isn't to say that a late interview won't get in. All you need is the invite. If you make a wonderful impression I'm sure it won't matter much.

Anyone who was in the waitlist then got offer for admission?

I applied for APNI- FNP 2020 and just got letter to be placed on waitlist.

Hi jn, a lot of people in my cohort got in off the waitlist. The first year I applied I was put on the waitlist and not taken off. The second year I applied I was put on the waitlist then accepted 24 hours later. SU unlike many other schools does not tell you where you are in the list, or provide constructive feedback for future applications. I know people who were admitted days before the program starting. So, you kind of just have to wait and see. It’s a rough process but it definitely can work out!

@pmhnpbound hi, so should I just wait or send the admission a follow up email? What is your advice?

thank you!

I don’t think it’d hurt to let them know you’re still interested despite this initial decision. They just may not respond.

Would any current students be able to tell me what days looks like during the APNI year please? Like how long (And what times) are we in class and how many days a week do we have clinicals?

The APNI year is tough, but it's not 80 hours a week like they tell you at the info sessions. I would say 60 hours a week is a better estimate. The clinicals are more concentrated in the middle of the quarter (the first few weeks we usually do the onboarding tasks). And they might be one 12 hour shift, or two 8 hour shifts a week. The clinicals are all in the day, so like 7 AM to 7 PM, or 9AM to 5 PM, so no graveyard shifts that I'm aware of.

Thank you so much for sharing that. It is extremely helpful.

Current students I was wondering did you guys have a white coat or any kind of pinning ceremony?
