Anyone already applying at Seattle U? Which track? I haven't finished my pre-req's, so I am probably not too competitive this year, but I am going to apply anyway. I am applying for the nurse-midwife track and my background is Microbiology (UW).
Calinca, got your message but can't respond because I don't have "15 quality discussions ongoing at allnurses.com." Some anti-spam thing. Anyway, hi! and yup, got my interview date: 2/27. Thank goodness I just happen to have that day off from work.. ha! No, they don't seem to be doing to by first or last name. I didn't want to comment on it in public because I think it will cause some people to worry. I am more curious to know people's stories: why they chose their track, why nursing, what they plan to do with their degree, what they think about the healthcare system. Hopefully I'll get some responses to my post. Take care and don't worry! :) :) :)
Perhaps the implication is that some candidates (who are more sought after) were invited to interview early while others are asked to interview later. I just keep going back to Flaneur's post reminding us that this is a long process and there are going to be plenty of surprises as well as candidates who will be chosen both sooner and later in the process. NursePrac.... don't worry about the things you can't control. Let the process play out and stay confident. I agree - we all received an invitation to interview so likely we will be notified of a confirmed time and date very soon. Don't speculate too much or worry about the decision making methods over at SU.... keep the faith!
what do you mean, plenty of surprises? :uhoh21:
I agree Justine, I already speculated way too much about this. But I just wanted to ease some fears - we all got invitations, there is no reason to believe there was an error (not when a bunch of people have the same problem).
At this point, I was just trying to be someone people could talk to, I hope I didn't make you more nervous, NursePrac!
Calinca:
It actually sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of what clinicals, write-ups, and the pharmacology class will be like! Pharm involves some memorization of pathways, very minimal calculations and a lot of memorizing specifics about drugs uses/adverse effects/interactions, etc. Every clinical is different, but for the most part you mainly work with one patient per shift and typically one nurse as well. Your experiences with student nurses at Valley and Overlake sound a lot like what you will likely be doing as a student nurse during maternity clinicals.
As far as shoes, nurses generally swear by dansko/sanita clogs. I bought a pair, but they take about a year of wearing before they stop feeling strange and unsteady! For most clinicals, I wear white tennis shoes. Our cohort was told to buy white leather shoes for clinicals, but we found out pretty soon that absolutely no one wears them and I am happy that I never bought them!
So far, there has been no separation between the specialties and yes, we separate in the summer. Congrats on picking the CNM specialty - I am so incredibly excited to start the midwifery portion of my education!
I still haven't received anything, nope. I also started to get the same worry that I was invited to interview by mistake...but, I'm just trying to prepare as much as I can in hopes that it's not, haha...I would hope they wouldn't do that to us!
Sigh...I hate this...It's killing me to wait
Waiting is the hardest part! My interview was rescheduled from Wednesday to Saturday because a faculty member was unavailable. I'm very glad it was rescheduled - gives me more time and I'll be more composed on Saturday because I don't have to worry about getting my HW done and prep for the interview during the week.
NPjustine - That's definitely a possibility, but maybe the opposite is true. Those who haven't heard yet about an interview time are "more desired" than those who have. For me, it really doesn't matter because I can speculate all I want and never come up with the right answer. I just want to give those who haven't received an interview time the possibility that it may be a very good thing.
I really hope I'll get to meet you all soon :)
