Anyone already applying at Seattle U? Which track? I haven't finished my pre-req's, so I am probably not too competitive this year, but I am going to apply anyway. I am applying for the nurse-midwife track and my background is Microbiology (UW).
Myelin, I have been looking for some volunteer opportunities in the area that offer direct patient contact. I've had a few opportunities to work within a hospital (non-direct) and done various other work previously...although one of the lame parts of my application is that I don't have a lot of extracurricular work during college...i went through a rough patch, graduated, and started working and school for prereqs a month later. If you're interested in giving me ideas it would be great if you messaged me some suggestions privately.
As for the rest of the wonderful people on this forum, who may not have gotten an interview this time...well, i feel your pain...i've had rejections at some of the schools that others have been accepted to and in general, i can't count on this SU one for sure...so I still have to face the prospect of getting back out there and doing more to strengthen my candidacy.
However, the hard work and spirit of everyone here will be noticed at some point in the future...there's no way that the dedication you all have will lead you astray. I really wish you the best and I'm kind of in a similar boat. Just keep trying - take it from a girl who has given up too soon too many times - if it's your dream, keep pursuing it (even when it seems rough).
And keep posting so that we can all develop and learn from one another!
Just want to add a dramatic statement about my rejection from SU.
"I could have have been a contender..I could have been somebody."
They may never know it, but we could have had something special SU!!
I wish everyone luck with their endeavors and interviews. Especially you Calinca- you have been a true inspiration for me especially.I will probably sign on in the future to see what happens with you-so be sure to update after your interview takes place.
Oh and for anyone who may need it (people who are rejected or may be rejected)...this famous poem has always given me some perspective and comfort during tough times:
I wish everyone could be invited to interview. I think that GPA, GRE score, a letter of intent, and two letters of rec can't fully describe our passion to become an NP. While I'm grateful (and was shocked) to be invited for an interview, I empathize with those who haven't.
As for volunteer opportunities, look into Seattle Children's. I am having, without exaggeration, life-changing experiences as a volunteer in the Child Life department.
Luluj, the sentiment is mutual, you too inspire me. We have been talking since what? October? That's really upsetting that it didn't work the way we wanted. But I will tell you: you have 8 months to do something great - get moving! That's how I deal with my challenges: I first cry my eyes out and then stand up and tall and fight. Don't let this disappointment drag you down, just don't!
I still don't know how this interview is going to be, I think I mentioned here that I suck at interviews, I just babble a lot :) but I will try my best and see how it goes. If I get rejected after that, I will have to really focus on what I'm going to do the next 8 months and that's not a lot of time.
I'll keep visiting this thread no matter what happens.

Also, even if you can't work in a hospital, there are opportunities to work directly with underserved or disadvantaged populations. Try working at homeless shelters or organizations that work with domestic violence victims. Also, free clinics are always looking for volunteers to help with registration or translation.
