Seattle Children's New Grad RN Residency May 2021

Published

Hello!

Anyone applying for the new grad residency program at Seattle Children's hospital? What units did you select? How many in-person clinical hours were you able to complete due to Covid?

Has anyone been through the residency or interviewed and willing to offer some perspective? The good/bad/ugly and how to prepare for interviews?

@Km14 I just received one as well, yay!
Are you local?

I just moved up to Seattle from the Bay Area in November, but grew up here. I’m a two block walk to Children’s. Fingers are crossed!  What did you rank as preferences? I listed PICU, Cancer Care, and Acute Care Float. I wished they had more critical care options this time around- but would still be delighted with acute/ ambulatory!

Just got an invite as well! I was so nervous that I didn’t get the interview! I listed Rehab, Surgical, and Mental Health as my top choices. Good luck to all!

I haven't gotten anything, but I'm so happy for you guys!! Let me know how the interviewing goes! I'll let you guys know if I receive an email, but I'm not too hopeful!

Do all of you have a BSN? Did you get a practicum in PEDS and have you worked with kids in other settings? I'm trying to gauge how competitive these peds residency programs are as I start applying for more!

I listed Heme/Onc, PICU and Acute Care Float Pool. Yes, I have my BSN (graduated in Dec) and had my senior preceptorship in a BMT unit in a well-known Children's Hospital. I also have a lot of other clinical experience as a CNA/ PCT (but not in Pediatrics, unfortunately)

That is all really cool; you definitely deserve a spot in the program! At the moment I only have an ADN (enrolled in a 1 yr BSN program), I didn't get a senior practicum because of the pandemic, and I have no experience as a CNA or PCT. I have worked in childcare and with kids and parents for over 7 years and had a clinical rotation in PEDs, so I was hoping that would make up for the other stuff, but it seems like clinical experience in PEDs is much more valuable than other work experience with kids. Thank you for the insight, and best of luck at the interview!

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has received the interview schedule for this Friday yet? The email said by EOD 02/23/2021 which I am assuming "EOD" stands for end of the day? I still haven't gotten mine.

@jksmile996

It just came through for me.

After an email that they're no longer hiring for PICU this go around.  Darn.

@Knightkr OMG I just saw it. Darn it was my top pick. I probably have to reread the email again

@jksmile996 and only ONE position.

DANG.  I knew it was competitive... I just didn't realize HOW competitive.

hmmmmm.  PICU leaving does change the game a bit!

Any idea how many applicants they generally have?
