Has anyone applied to any of the Clinical Nurse I position at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose? If yes, have you received a call/email for an interview, and for which unit?
Also if you are willing to share the questions you were asked during your interview, that would be amazing!! Good luck to all ?
Thanks ?

How does your schedule, orientation/training, and responsibilities work for the "Extra Help" position from June until Sept?
Thank you in advance!
After a little bit of googling, I found this agreement that last until Oct 29th, 2023 that provides some details about the Extra Help Position

Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding!
So.. the unit I am currently in is currently (or already finished) hiring for the next start date which is September something... This is for the IICU (it is a new unit they are starting).
The program consists of 12 weeks. 1 week of orientation, 3 weeks in class and the rest is on the floor. The orientation itself will include other staff from different floors/titles (unless it's the hands-on orientation). The class itself will include staff from the unit or similar unit but RNs only. Class is in person for 8hrs. Fox example IICU and PCU are going through the same class. Some staff were hired as extra help and others coded (full time) - as far as how they made that decision is unclear to me. They have hired for AM, PM, and NOC.
Are there any questions I missed in answering or anything else you guys would like to know?

Hi! I recently interviewed for the IICU position starting in September (also didn’t have a good feeling after meeting manager so tbd on if I will even get the job) but I was curious how the training is going. On unit training is in the SICU / TICU correct?
have you heard anything on what to expect as far as being an extra help position after training? Does it seem like working full time is the likely case or is there a possibility there won’t be enough shifts to pick up? I believe the manager told me “extra help” positions do receive benefits, does that seem accurate from what you have learned so far?
thanks in advance

To clarify, the extra help positions DO NOT get benefits, not even PTO or sick time. I was offered a job in the critical care unit a couple months ago and turned it down for this reason, in addition to no guaranteed hours. meaning extra help is the lowest paid position and they are not obligated to give you hours. I was told that if my unit didn't need me I could float to other units but they 'try" to give full time hours in the first year after training. To sum it up, I felt this position was best for a new grad who was still on their parents insurance. (I looked up insurance rates and it was over $500 for a single person with no dependents). If you are a nurse with a few years of experience you can do better elsewhere.

It was not bad! I first met with two assistant managers who were super nice. Most of the questions were behavioral scenario and then I got two pretty basic clinical scenario questions. One question I got that caught me a little off guard was “what’s a misconception people have about you and what do you do about that”, but the rest of the questions were straight forward. I had a brief interview with the manager after that who asked more clinical scenario questions but all were straightforward.

Hi, I’m interviewing for the same unit, can you share some of the questions asked? I’m just super nervous and don’t want to mess up this opportunity.
Thanks in advance

Is the class or orientation virtual? Which unit will you be on?
